Albany County County Attorney- Part Time in Albany, New York

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: These professional duties involve responsibility for the performing of various legal work in the County Attorney's Office. Work assignments are received from the County Attorney and the work involves responsibility for research, preparation of opinions, and trial of civil cases. The work requires the exercise of independent legal judgment, but matters of policy are taken to a superior for decision. Work is subject to review by the County AttorneyTYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:· Plans, assigns, and supervises the legal work performed for the County Executive, Legislature, or other elected officials;· Prepares contracts and passes title on property acquired by the county;· Renders oral and written opinions to the Legislature, County Executive, department heads, and other elected officers of the county government;· Attends committee meetings for the Legislature for the purpose of learning policies underlying official action and gives advice on legal problems;· Prosecutes and defends civil actions brought by or against the county or county officers;· Keeps informed on proposed state legislation affecting the county, drafts legislative bills, prepares memoranda recommending approval or disapproval of legislation;· Serves in an advisory capacity in the modification of the administrative operations of the county;· Performs related work as required.FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:· Thorough knowledge of the county's legal authority and the general laws relating to the conduct of county operations;· Thorough knowledge of the established precedents and sources of legal reference involved;· Thorough knowledge of judicial procedure and rules of evidence;· Skill in the preparation of opinions and briefs and the trial of cases;· Ability to organize, interpret and apply legal principles and knowledge to the particular circumstances;· Ability to present material clearly and logically in oral or in written form;· Ability to meet and deal effectively with persons interested or involved in suit with the Legislature.SUGGESTED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredit law school and eight years of experience in the practice of law, included or supplemented by two (2) years of experience in an administrative capacity in a law office.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:Possession of a license to practice law in the State of New York.Juris. Class: Exempt

Minimum Salary: 50,000.00 Maximum Salary: 50,000.00 Salary Unit: Yearly
