Ashburton District Council 3 Waters Compliance Officer (Applications close 6 May 2024) in Ashburton, New Zealand

    What the job involves

    You’ll enjoy a varied role that contributes to the protection of the environment and the community’s investment in infrastructure by monitoring and enforcing Council’s bylaws within our 3 waters activities (drinking water, wastewater and stormwater). You will monitor and sample water, wastewater and stormwater systems and complete thorough reports of such activities.

    In conjunction with other team members, you will operate and maintain the Laboratory to a high standard in accordance with approved procedures. You will monitor and enforce the water supply, conduct regular audits and investigate and report on non-compliance issues. You will also provide support in the administration and management of Council’s Utility Operations and Maintenance Contract for Water, Wastewater and Stormwater.

    Who we are looking for

    You’ll have a thorough understanding of sampling procedures along with analysis, reporting and laboratory experience. Ideally good working knowledge of Drinking Water Standards for New Zealand plus a sound understanding of relevant consent processes and legislation. You’ll need to be approachable and proactive, with a real want to succeed in this role. Like us, you’ll be committed to providing a high level of service and you’ll be a master at multitasking.

    You will be comfortable working flexible hours, including weekend work when required to perform water testing and respond to emergency events. Ideally you will have completed a relevant trade waste or sampling qualification or course and will also have an understanding of or experience in commercial or industrial waste discharge.
