Microsoft Corporation Senior Cloud Network Engineer in Atlanta, Georgia

As part of Microsoft Azure, the Azure Networking team designs and builds the network infrastructure that powers hundreds of thousands of servers in datacenters around the globe, providing core network infrastructure services for Open AI, Azure, Bing, and other Microsoft cloud services. In Azure Networking, we are at the very front of Cloud Computing by running one of the largest data center network infrastructures in the world . By joining this team, you will gain marketable experience in service-oriented network architectures and datacenter networking at massive scale.

For this position, you should be familiar with network protocols, network devices include network interface cards, pluggable optics, switches and routers. You should feel comfortable working with large-scale distributed systems that managing the network infrastructure that supports the Azure Cloud infrastructure as well as well in designing, building & operating the large-scale distributed systems that manage the network.

We are looking for an Senior Cloud Network Engineer to enhance and improve the platform, with an emphasis on DevOps -- the ability to problem management, script/program to support and operate a cloud-scale network.

You should have experience uncovering and addressing network and system related problems in large scale data centers. Someone who can work to quickly mitigate impacts and restore service availability through a software enabled toolset.

Responsibilities

  • Leading Network quality assurance and code review processes to mitigate risks and improve network performance. Holds responsibility for crucial aspects of network implementation such as physical connections, protocols, and qualification of design.

  • Harnessing Physical network data for precise failure analysis and proactive monitoring enhancements to improve the network availability.

  • Swiftly diagnosing and resolving network issues with minimal customer impact, backed by meticulous post-incident analysis as part of on-call responsibilities.

  • Pioneering automated solutions to optimize network operations and incident management workflows.

  • Streamlining network deployments by contributing to cutting-edge automation for rapid and efficient infrastructure expansion.

  • Identifying and addressing operational gaps with technical finesse and innovative automation strategies.

  • Collaborate with partner development teams to integrate the feedback into existing Azure SDN tooling.

  • Working with internal and external vendor engineers to troubleshoot issues found during Network health validation and field operations and drive for resolution.

  • Participate in “field technical support/on call rotation” to resolve issues with production networks.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field AND 4+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Technology, or related field

  • 5+ years of experience with writing automation in languages such as Python, C#

  • 8+ years of experience with TCP/IP fundamentals along with a basic understanding of IP networking MPLS, BGP, ISIS, OSPF and Anycast routing

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in networking, scripting, and software development. Familiarity/hands on experience with any network device operating systems (Sonic, Arista, Cisco, Juniper)

  • Cisco CCNA (or equivalent) and experience with Linux/Unix operating systems and Windows servers

  • Experience with writing scripts that use REST APIs, Syslog, xml, SNMP, and other Network Management Systems

  • Knowledge of TCP/IP fundamentals along with a basic understanding of IP networking MPLS, BGP, ISIS, OSPF and Anycast routing

  • Experience managing and troubleshooting network issues

  • Experience working on large scale networks

  • Understanding of TCP/IP, BGP and AnyCast

Cloud Network Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
