Position Title : Director, Compensation and Benefits

Position Purpose:

The Director of Compensation & Benefits works with management to ensure that compensation and benefits programs support the organization’s business objectives and meet all legal requirements. This position strategically develops and leads the team which administers all compensation and benefits programs to attract and retain employees. The successful individual monitors trends and provides recommendations for improvements. This individual will create policies and initiatives to ensure compensation and benefits program follow all legal and organizational rules and guidelines.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the Compensation & Benefits team to ensure the pay and benefits packages are competitive and in compliance with state and federal regulations. Motivate, develop, and manage staff.

  • Design, implement, and evaluate existing and future potential compensation and benefits programs including base pay, deferred compensation, health and welfare benefits, leave management, long term disability, and retirement/pension benefits.

  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand the structure of functions and teams to accurately oversee market pricing for each role to ensure salary grades and ranges are competitive.

  • Oversee projects and initiatives to modernize benefit offerings and optimize the user experience.

  • Manage and oversee 401(k) Committee Meetings and oversee all 401(k) administration (with help from multiple vendors) and oversee audit activities.

  • Effectively communicate across all levels of leadership regarding compensation and benefits information including new proposals, standard updates, and resolutions to problems that may arise.

  • Lead a variety of standard annual compensation and benefits processes by analyzing and utilizing data to make effective decisions.

  • Assist with labor negotiations and provide accurate and forward predictions regarding calculations on benefits and compensation data.

  • Develop compensation and benefits budget to align with approved initiatives.

  • Oversee FLSA designations and provide guidance and recommendations on such classifications.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge in Benefits & Compensation processes and practices.

  • Excellent Microsoft Excel & analytical skills required.

  • High level of attention to detail and ability to think strategically is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree Human Resources, Business, or related field. Master’s Degree preferred. SHRM certification preferred.

  • 7+ years of Benefits/Compensation experience required.

  • Previous experience leading a team is required.

  • Experience working with labor contracts is strongly preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

This position requires frequent sitting and standing/walking; and occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, use of keyboard/computer, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position requires good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak. It also requires the ability to develop plans, procedures and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects within deadlines. Some travel is required for this position.
