A Day in The Life

  • Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Design, develop, and test robotic and computer vision algorithms in Unity/C#, C++, and Simulink

  • Prototype new features during software sprints and demo/pitch to key stakeholders

  • Define software requirements and feature sets within a cross functional team

  • Participate in architecture and code reviews with other engineers and developers

  • Document software design details and present new concepts during team meetings

  • Contribute to idea disclosures and present at patent review board meetings

  • Participate in Medtronic-wide science & technology initiatives, meetings, and conferences

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer engineering, or similar field with 1-3 years of relevant experience.

Nice to Have

Experience with software development including :

  • Strong knowledge and experience in object-oriented design and programming

  • Background in Agile software development, specifically using Bitbucket and Atlassian tools

  • Integration of complex assets such as multi-link kinematic robot models

  • Implementing complex interactions and state machines across a variety of platforms

  • Demonstrated skills in managing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Experience working with multiple teams across functions and business units on concurrent, interdependent projects

Experience with relevant technologies including:

  • Previous experience with robotics and multi-DOF kinematic chains

  • RTI DDS and other common networking protocols

  • Computer vision, image processing, registration, stereo reconstruction, 3D point clouds

  • Electronics (particularly image sensors, optics, and embedded systems)

  • Robotic control systems and surgical simulation

Other Skills:

  • Proficient use of modeling & simulation software (MATLAB/Simulink strongly preferred)

  • Familiarity with multi-body kinematics and dynamics

  • Experienced in the design of position, velocity, and torque feedback controllers

  • Experience with implementing and tuning of high-performance feedback control in software

  • Signal processing experience (discrete/digital methods and algorithms)

  • Experience working with open-source computer vision toolkits (e.g., MRTK, AR toolkit, OpenCV, ITK, PCL)

  • Comfortable with common development tools, such as JetBrains Rider, Visual studio, Android studio, and Wireshark

  • Comfortable debugging complex hardware/software challenges

  • Comfortable in both product development and exploratory research projects

  • Experience developing in a Linux (Ubuntu preferred), Windows, or Mac environment

  • Knowledge of robotic surgery, clinical use of product, and competitors

  • Medical product development experience and hands-on exposure to medical/surgical devices/instruments

  • Experience with a big company with matrix structures, having already worked with cross functional teams

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
