Job Summary

Reporting into the Director of Strategy and Operations; supporting the Facilities and Maintenance Lead, as Building Systems & Sustainability Engineer, you will be responsible for the development of the digital maintenance and fault rectification management system, and the other facility control and visualisation systems in use at our state of the art Research and Development facility; also referred to as our Global Technology Centre (GTC) in Bristol, with the day to day maintenance, improvements and fault rectification of the building services. You will also be responsible for leading sustainability initiatives and projects, to deliver our GTC route to net zero.

This role will see you on site throughout the working week, with the expectation to participate in a monthly on-call duty rota. The rota will consist of evenings and weekends from 18:00 through to 22:00 hours.

Job Responsibilities

The role will see you involved in the following initiatives:

  • Building Management Systems - Tracking and reporting of all planned and preventative maintenance activities, maintaining detailed records to support this; ensuring all assets are registered and recorded accordingly

  • Sustainability and Energy Efficiency - Identify and implement opportunities to improve energy efficiency within the facility i.e. lighting, HVAC systems etc. along with the environmental impact such as waste reduction, recycling etc. Gain and maintain environmental accreditations for the facility such as ISO50001

  • Building Systems Maintenance - Carry out regular inspections of the facilities electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems to ensure fully operational at all times; reporting any issues and driving resolution within a timely, controlled environment, minimising the impact to the buildings occupants.

  • Workshop Maintenance - Maintain and repair equipment and machinery within the workshop to ensure safe and efficient at all times.

  • Emergency Response - Develop and update emergency response plans, including fire safety and evacuation procedures. Conduct regular fire drills and safety training for all building occupants, ensuring all fire fighting equipment and first aid supplies are maintained.

  • Budget Management - Develop and oversee budgets for all facility maintenance, repairs and tooling; including sustainability improvement projects.

  • Compliance and Regulations - Stay up to date on all safety regulations and industry standards; ensuring the facility remains compliant at all times.

  • Vendor and contractor Management - Co-ordinate with external vendors and contractors for specialised maintenance and repair services. Evaluate contractor performance, ensuring the work is completed to standard and satisfaction.

  • Occupant Comfort and Safety - Address occupant concerns related to comfort, safety and maintenance issues. Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all occupants to the facility i.e. staff, visitors, contractors etc.

Job Qualifications

In order to be considered for this opportunity you must possess the following experience:

Essential:

  • Experience of working to implement functional capability in the area of Facilities and/or Maintenance

  • Technical expertise in maintenance/facilities Engineering; with a professional qualification / background in engineering

  • Detailed understanding of energy & sustainability targets and able to use initiate to propose, scope & deliver projects to progress building roadmap to net zero.

  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software for record keeping and reporting.

  • Experience of digital systems development, Continuous Improvement and LEAN methodologies

  • Experience of working on complex technical projects within global organisations

  • Advanced communication and influencing skills; with an ability to influence senior levels of the business, as well as establish collaborative working relationships across different departments and geographies

  • Proven structured problem solving experience

  • Fluent in English language, both written and spoken

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle emergencies effectively

    Desirable:

  • Experience of either Project or Program Management principles

  • Demonstrable experience within Operations/Facilities/Maintenance environment

  • Detailed knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
