GE Vernova Control and Automation Engineer - System Engineering in Chennai, India

Job Description Summary

As a member of a multidisciplinary team, develop and deliver a complete automation solution that includes system architecture, specifications, data sheet, application software, testing and commissioning; ensuring the project meets customer, contract and regulatory requirements.

Job Description

Essential functions:

  • Develop and test a complete automation project predominantly, but not limited to, Marine, offshore and Naval projects.

  • Experienced in different phases of Software Development Life cycle (SDLC) including Design, Implementation and Testing during the development of software applications.

  • Perform the functional design of HMI, PLC Architecture, Networks and communication interfaces using standard automation hardware and software components.

  • Work with design office to produce equipment drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, cable interconnection drawings and interface schedules.

  • Good understanding of Alarm & Monitoring systems, Integrated Automation System, Power Management System & Dynamic positioning system.

  • Good understanding of industrial automation protocols such as Modbus, EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, Profibus . ProfiNet etc...

  • Write PLC software using IEC 61131-3 programming languages i.e. Ladder diagram (LD), Function block diagram (FBD), Structured text (ST), Instruction list (IL) and Sequential function chart (SFC).

  • Design, tag, and test automation mimics on HMI SCADA packages.

  • Interpret project requirements based on internal specifications, customer specifications and knowledge of product application.

  • When necessary, carry out a detailed field survey to assess the interfaces between the new and existing system.

  • Create automation specification and provide solutions within engineering standards.

  • Create procedures and run tests on the automation system.

  • Run bench tests and write concise reports.

  • Write technical notes for correcting products and systems.

  • Commissioning / Service upgrade of automation projects.

  • Fulfillment of technical assistance requests.

  • Carry out the tasks within the agreed time and cost.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronic Engineering with 4 to 5 years’ experience.

Desired Features

  • Adhere to company rules and procedures and execute plans with commitment and determination

  • Fluency in English to join an international project team.

  • PLC programming and HMI development for industrial projects.

  • Automation programming language such as ladder diagram, blocks and structured text.

  • Has knowledge of Vessel Control systems, Dynamic Positioning System, Marine Power and Propulsion systems, Drive Control System.

  • Database & Programming languages; GE’s Proprietary development software P80i, MS Visual Studio, MS Office, MS Visio, Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Knowledge of IEC61850 protocol, IEC624443 & NIST SP 800 cyber standards will be added advantage

  • Ability to work on tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Good ability to produce management reports.

  • Proactivity, and Flexible to work on different domains

  • Willingness for short and medium term national and international travel.
