Job Description Summary

The Employee Health Nurse provides high-level nursing assessment. The Employee Health Nurse will provide treatment to employees including coordinating physical examinations, ordering appropriate tests, evaluation and treatment, and follow-up care for work-related and non-work-related injuries and illnesses. Monitors Worker\'s Compensation claims. Assesses medical reports and assists in determining long-term disability and sick pay eligibility.

Job Description

The Employee Health Nurse:

  • Assists in assessment and processing of post offer employment appointments, employee injuries and BBFE exposures. Reviews post-offer employee lab tests, drug screen results, fit testing, immunization history and TB testing results
  • Provides initial assessment of occupational injuries, illnesses and exposures and may treat or refer for further evaluation as necessary in accordance with clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Administers the Respiratory Protection Program, which includes arranging for fit testing for employees and providing respiratory protection training.
  • Administers required onboarding and seasonal flu immunizations to SRAlab parties.
  • Maintains and protects confidential employee health records for all employees according to regulatory requirements.
  • Tracks TB screening records for employees, maintaining a database, following-up with employees not in compliance, and notifying department management.
  • Coordinates and processes workers compensation claims by providing nursing assessments involving disability claims and employee eligibility for sick pay, monitoring restricted duty dates, and coordinating returns with department heads.
  • Maintains the OSHA log by recording work related incidents, tracking days lost and restricted duty days, and providing locations with an annual summary report.
  • Collaborates with Infection Control to monitor employee infections that may affect the health of other employees or patients.
  • Assists with the development of policies and procedures for Employee Health Services.
  • Manages clinic supplies, equipment, medications, etc.
  • Understands and complies with all regulatory, procedural, policy and licensing requirements
  • Consistently demonstrates accountability
  • Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan Abilitylab.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports directly to the Nurse Manager, Employee Health

Knowledge, Skills & Ab lities Required

  • Knowledge of physiology, anatomy and nursing practices and procedures acquired through completion of a Bachelor\'s degree.
  • Current license in the State of Illinois as a Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum of 2 years nursing experience with a knowledge of assessing and responding to multitude of employee health problems.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively with employees, physicians, administrators and workers compensation insurance carrier representatives.
  • Analytical skills necessary in order to evaluate employees\' needs and state of health, take appropriate action or refer employees to appropriate sources.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to fifty percent of work time in resolving employee health care problems and dealing with Hospital employees, sometimes in stressful situations.
  • Requires motor coordination to allow for preparation and administration of injections.

Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
