Key Responsibilities:

The Principal Enterprise Architect – Disaster Recovery will play a key role in influencing United Airline’s IT Disaster Recovery (DR) strategy as well as providing tactical architecture direction to ensure the enterprise can meet and improve upon the DR coverage and performance objectives. This individual will provide strategic advice and guidance to functional team(s) while highly skilled with broad, advanced technical and cloud experience especially related to IT disciplines. This role serves as a leader with vision to challenge/influence partners across the Digital Technology organization to rethink routine, embrace new best practices, and drive adoption of technology standards. The individual will also participate in enterprise architecture governance over solutions that provide technical capabilities for DR.

  • Collaborate with domain architects, engineers and leaders to develop DR technical standards, reference architectures, design patterns, opinion papers and architecture decision frameworks that guide the design of on-prem and cloud technology solutions, especially those requiring integration of multiple platforms, operating systems and applications across the enterprise from an IT-Disaster Recovery stand point

  • Participate in the architecture review process by ensuring alignment to DR and resiliency policies and guidelines, reviewing architectural artifacts and providing domain specific guidance to drive architectural alignment

  • Research, implement, and drive the adoption of DR design patterns throughout the enterprise and evangelizes standard methodologies for solution design and development

  • Identify new technologies, industry trends and best practices

  • Develop and maintain relevant DR architecture and planning artifacts and store within the DR repository, including – current state architecture, standards, reference architectures, capability maps and recovery plans

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant work experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, other computer related field

  • Minimum 9+ years of relevant experience of which at least 3-5 years of Enterprise Architecture experience

  • Strong communication skills for creating and sharing presentations to multiple levels of audiences of partners - i.e. senior executives in business and IT, architects, developers, etc

  • Hands-on experience in leading DR design, and testing of applications and technology infrastructure areas (e.g., network, compute, storage, databases, middleware, and virtualization)

  • Experience with AWS application migration and implementations of multi-region failover strategy

  • Strong understanding of cloud computing DR technologies and tools

  • Broad knowledge in DR EA domains: Business Process Architecture, Infrastructure Architecture, Applications Architecture, Information Architecture

  • Understanding of Architecture framework (TOGAF, Zachman, etc.)

  • Knowledge of various replication/recovery technologies (e.g., Zerto, DoubleTake)

  • Experience with multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments (servers, network, storage, database, middleware)

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master's degree in Computer Science

  • AWS Certified Solution Architect - Professional certification or better (Solution Architect, Developer, or SysOps)

  • Hold a qualification in Enterprise Architecture Certification (Zachman, Togaf, Gartner)

  • Disaster Recovery Certification e.g., DRCS (Disaster Recovery Certified Specialist). CDRE (Certified Disaster Recovery Engineer)

  • 3-5+ years of AWS experience
