Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.

Scope of Position:

This position requires a self-motivated individual, capable of working independently and as part of a team without direct supervision. The Reliability Engineer is responsible for increasing asset availability through the utilization of reliability tools, methods, and practices. Analyze equipment failure data (FMEA), conduct root cause analysis (RCA), and develop and implement new procedures and processes to improve uptime. Implement continuous improvements, support new system installations, production strategies to improve plant reliability. Assists, trains/coaches employees in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and the repair of machinery and equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership for the evolution from reactive to proactive maintenance, leading to productivity improvements and a reduced maintenance cost.

  • Develop predictive maintenance techniques on equipment to enhance uptime conditions.

  • Work with maintenance leadership to create asset care strategies that focus on failure prevention and equipment reliability.

  • Participate in problem solving activities and recommend changes to the care of assigned equipment.

  • Lead problem solving methodologies such as FMEA, 5 Why / Root Cause Analysis.

  • Utilize the continuous improvement mindset and tools to actively participate in identifying opportunities and correcting problems.

  • Participate in the creation and documentation of Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, maintenance procedures, and preventative maintenance standards.

  • Provide technical support to identify and implement solutions for day to day equipment problems.

  • Quickly respond to production and process upsets, troubleshoot production issues, diagnose problems, and implement corrective action (machine fix, process change, etc.) to reestablish operations.

  • Apply engineering and process knowledge to improve plant and manufacturing processes.

  • Act to continually improve operations processes through projects, experimentation, designs, and process enhancements.

  • Monitor and analyze overall equipment effectiveness to drive continuous improvement direction.

Required Education and Experience:

  • BS Electrical Engineering, BS Mechanical Engineering, or related field

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in an engineering or technical role in manufacturing.

  • Data analytics skills.

  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.

  • Track record of achieving results which have a significant impact on operational cost.

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, documentation, and presentation skills.

  • Hands on experience solving technical problems and driving improvements in manufacturing process capability, machine reliability and equipment output.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with computer software applications including Pi Process Book and/or Pi Vision, Excel, Word

  • Experience in leading projects.

  • Sound troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Self-motivated, self-directed, and resourceful.

This position supports a 24/7 manufacturing operation. Must respond to off-hours calls to resolve manufacturing process upsets or plant systems downtime events. Occasionally must flex working schedule as required to meet business needs. Some scheduled weekend/holiday support will be required periodically through the year.

The range for this position is $79,485.00 - $109,292.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
