Copeland Sr Legal Counsel LATAM in CIUDAD DE MEXICO, Mexico

  • Draft and negotiate legal documents, such as sales contracts and procurement agreements and drive progress towards our standard terms in the region.

  • Manage legal matters in LATAM related to employee relations in conjunction with Human Resources.

  • Manage and advise the business regarding corporate governance matters, including strategic transactions, governing documentation, intercompany service arrangements, local corporate filings, and powers of attorney.

  • Provide legal advice and interpretation of legal matters, including the application of law.

  • Keep up with current changes of all relevant areas of laws impacting LATAM activities and contribute to the enhancement of the knowledge base of the company’s legal function.

  • Perform due diligence reviews in accordance with Copeland's third-party due diligence review and approval process.

  • Provide legal support on any other matters that the business or legal function may need, including international trade compliance and anti-bribery and corruption.

  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, statutory regulations, and other formalities.

  • Provide direction and training to business units regarding on various legal topics.

  • Coordinate, facilitate, and lead the resolution of customers' disputes and performance.

  • Calculate and handle risks in business processes and decision making.

Profile

Education: Legal Degree

Experience in years: +5 years

Experience in/ with:

  • Experience in commercial or project counsel role whether inhouse or in private practice, experience with large complex projects an asset.

  • Prior experience collaborating with teams across LATAM

  • Strong work ethic, superior organizational skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment under time constraints.

  • Ability to foster a culture of collaboration, within the legal team, with other functions and with the business.

  • Demonstrated commitment to centering diversity and equity in executing key responsibilities.

Skills:

  • Excellent judgment, strong communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple groups and functions.

  • Organization and the ability to effectively balance a large number and wide variety of issues and projects.

  • Strong negotiating skills with both legal and financial/commercial issues.

  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

Languages:

  • Spanish, English & Portuguese (preferable)
