Mechanical Engineer Mechanical Engineer II NASA Glenn Research Center Cleveland, Ohio HX5 is an award-winning provider of engineering, research and development, and technical services to clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. HX5 is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Cleveland, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The selected candidate will support the mechanical engineering department in the area of fluid systems engineering which will include cryocooler design, analysis, and testing. HX5 provides engineering support services to a wide range of projects at NASA Glenn Research Center and seeks a candidate with the ability to rapidly learn and immediately contribute. This position will support the NASA LTF/Fluid and Cryogenic Systems Branch. The candidate will: Work with NASA personnel to develop a strategy and plan forward for cryocooler development within the Portfolio P. Develop and validate system level cryocooler models for use on NASA programs. Work with NASA personnel to demonstrate the benefits of cryocoolers in various mission application. Support testing at cryocooler vendors and oversee operations. Support existing cryocooler contracting efforts as well as integration to the CryoFILL test hardware. The ideal candidate will also have experience with aerospace systems and/or aerospace research. Required Skills: Understanding of the standard concepts, practices, and procedures related to fluid and cryogenic systems. This includes design and analysis of fluid systems, as well as hands-on testing. Strategic thinker who can learn the technical details of cryocooler systems and oversee testing at NASA and with industry partners. Strong fluid and thermal background is required. Other Desired Skills: Experience with engineering tools such as Creo, ANSYS, Thermal Desktop, and fluid systems analysis calculations. Heat transfer analysis in cryogenic applications. Turbomachinery design and analysis experience. Licensed Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training (EIT) Education/Experience: Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree (preferably from an ABET accredited program) with the following years of experience: Master's degree with 0 to 3 years of experience Bachelor's degree with 2 to 5 years of experience Other Position Requirements: Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position. Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
