Posted March 12, 2024 External Careers COMPANY: Case Western Reserve University LOCATION: 2123 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., Cleveland, OH 44106 TITLE: Senior Research Engineer HOURS: Full-time DUTIES: Perform both qualitative and quantitative analysis for advanced materials characterization and research. Responsible for user training and maintenance of the PHI 680 Scanning Auger Microprobe (AES), PHI Versaprobe 5000 Scanning X-Ray Photoelectron Spectrometer (XPS) and the PHI TRIFT V nano-TOF Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometer (ToFSIMS). Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate materials characterization projects using XPS, ToF-SIMS, and AES. Interface with external clients and university researchers. Work with service engineers to maintain instruments in working condition and minimize instrument downtime. Prepare training materials and carry out user training sessions on AES, XPS, and ToFSIMS operation and data analysis. Enhance technical methodology or content through expansion of existing, or development of new efforts. Collaborate with internal researchers to provide analysis support leading to publications. Provide innovative problem-solving approaches to enhance organizational capabilities and use peer network to expand technical capabilities and identify new research opportunities. Initiate new project concepts and seek funding; develop technical proposals and make presentations to potential customers. REQUIREMENTS:Master's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Macromolecular Engineering, or a related field of study, and four (4) years as a Research Scientist, Postdoctoral Researcher, Lab Manager, or related occupation. Employer will also accept a PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Macromolecular Engineering or a related field of study, and two (2) years as a Research Scientist, Postdoctoral Researcher, Lab Manager, or a related occupation. Must also have experience with: operation of XPS and TOF-SIMS; materials characterization using XPS and TOF-SIMS; maintaining XPS and TOF-SIMS instruments and communicating with field service engineers for XPS and TOF-SIMS instruments; data analysis programs for XPS and TOF-SIMS; and writing technical reports including analysis reports.
