Job Summary:

At Caterpillar’s Decatur, IL facility, we manufacture and assemble Large Mining and Construction equipment. In this role as a Senior Product Service Engineer, you will report to the Manager Product Support, and will be primarily responsible for providing leadership and design new products or changes to existing products that are very complex. As a member of the Product Support team, you will need to have a growth mindset, promote continuous improvement, and help build a defect-free culture. What you will do:

  • Developing appropriate procedures and plans to ensure product quality and evaluating results to identify functional deficiencies. Correcting design flaws as needed.

  • Evaluating production processes to identify defects in manufacturing and design. Modifying designs to maximize production efficiency and product quality.

  • Soliciting and gathering internal and external feedback to identify potential new products and/or improvements to existing products that improve product serviceability.

  • Writing technical specifications and instructions to ensure product quality and performance. Tracking and managing the status of projects from inception to release.

• Resolves complex customer complaints or problems.

Effective Communications : Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

Level Extensive Experience:

• Reviews others' writing or presentations and provides feedback and coaching.

• Adapts documents and presentations for the intended audience.

• Demonstrates both empathy and assertiveness when communicating a need or defending a position.

• Communicates well downward, upward, and outward.

• Employs appropriate methods of persuasion when soliciting agreement.

• Maintains focus on the topic at hand.

Problem Solving : Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Level Extensive Experience:

• Ensures capture of lessons to be learned from a problem-solving effort.

• Organizes potential problem solvers and leads problem resolution efforts.

• Uses varying problem-solving approaches and techniques as appropriate.

• Contributes to standard practices for problem-solving approaches, tools, and processes.

Experience and Education requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

  • In lieu of degree, 10+ years of related experience

  • 7+ years of related experience

Additional Information:

The primary location for this position is Decatur, IL
