This is a Term-limited two year position to support digital accessibility work
Summary of this position
History Colorado is committed to serving all Coloradans, and is investing in making its digital resources and content accessible to all. The Accessibility Manager will serve as the program leader, implementing and continually improving an accessibility plan and strategy. The Accessibility Manager will be responsible for communicating the importance of digital accessibility, building internal capacity to executive accessibility goals, serving as a liaison among departments, coordinating with vendors for remediation of legacy content, application testing, and new services, and maintaining an on-going training program that takes advantage of up-to-date resources and best practices. This position will work closely with History Colorado Director of Information Technology and with staff from the Governor’s Office of Information Technology (OIT).
Position duties include but are not limited to:
Digital Accessibility Leadership:
Serves as the internal point person for digital accessibility, implementing existing accessibility plans and developing new plans for continual improvement
Maintains extensive knowledge on current trends and best practices in accessibility and accommodations and acts as the point person on all accessibility related questions
Understands how implementation affects staff and operations.
Creates goals, project plans, and metrics to ensure the organization’s websites, applications, and documents are accessible and that the Department is complying with Office of Internet Technologies Technology Accessibility Program (TAP) standards.
Functions as the staff authority on digital accessibility and advises senior leadership on resource allocation, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Monitors the status of digital accessibility program, helps prioritize efforts, and communicate progress to senior leadership
Liaison and Coordinating:
Lead an accessibility-focused committee across the department to generate feedback, empower users to solve accessibility challenges, and assist in creation of policies, procedures, training, etc.
Coordinates, builds relationships with, and communicates with a variety of stakeholders across History Colorado, meeting with each department regularly
Maintains close working relationship with OIT accessibility team
Serves as the main point of contact for accommodation requests, tracking all requests and coordinating with other staff or consultant to respond to requests in a timely manner
Manages relationships and procurement with third-party vendors needed for content remediation and application testing
Presents information on program goals, program performance, project status, and helps address and solve challenges for the program through working with affected groups.
Training & Internal Capacity-Building
Develops consistent communications and maintain internal Intranet resource with up-to-date accessibility best practices and training content
Answers staff questions and direct staff to appropriate resources to continually strengthen internal accessibility knowledge and skills
Ensures that training is available for employees, and tracks participation in training programs
Assists staff to develop internal standard operating procedures to incorporate accessibility best practices into daily operations.
Other duties as assigned, including providing support to the Director of IT.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Three years of experience implementing accessibility for public programs; effectively providing program management for one or more projects in the context of large, strategic, and complex initiatives; or improving accessibility in technology products or systems.
AND
Bachelor's degree in Technology, Business Systems, Program Management, Communications, Public Engagement, Public Administration, Social Work, Business Administration, or other field closely related to the work assignment.
Substitutions:
Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the bachelor's degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Additional appropriate education will substitute for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Current or former State experience relevant to this position.
Demonstrated project management experience in a large organization.
Knowledge and experience in accessibility requirements, including ADA rules, regulations, standards, WCAG digital accessibility guidelines.
Experience training and relaying information to employees and stakeholders in an easy to understand manner.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
