The Advertising Support, Trust and Safety Team plays a key role in protecting users, advertisers, and publishers for Microsoft Advertising in support of Search, Display, Native and Video advertising through user and platform safety strategies aligned to ad and publisher policy standards. As a Senior Service Engineer in Advertising Trust and Safety, you will join a team of technical experts to deliver advanced fraud, malware, and security solutions for the Microsoft online Advertising marketplace through complex data analysis. Your role will involve analyzing anomalous traffic and demand ingestion patterns across various data sources, including advertiser, display, native, and publisher data, campaigns, domains, and apps. Your goal will be to protect advertiser ROI and user safety by identifying suspicious or fraudulent traffic and advertising practices. You will proactively work to protect customers and users by mitigating fraud and noncompliant activity. Responsibilities

  • Acts as front-line security gatekeeper for Microsoft's online advertising marketplace. Performs forensics (detailed and extraordinarily complex investigations) on the Microsoft Advertising platform to identify and fight fraud, malware and other unsafe advertising and supply practices. Identifies concerning or anomalous trends and patterns posing traffic and ad quality risks and violations. 

  • Seeks to mitigate traffic and ad quality risks or other out of compliance activity on the network. Targets unique and quickly evolving security challenges when new malware technologies or suspect traffic appears. Works to progressively evolve detection and investigation methodologies. 

  • Uses advanced investigative techniques and identified root cause trends across escalations to connect dots between disparate data sources and signals to identify underlying fraud threat vectors for complex cases. 

  • Captures, records, and analyzes events to discover the source of security and user / advertiser safety attacks or other problem incidents using standard and custom forensic systems. Including 'Catch-it-as-you-can' systems, 'Stop, look and listen' systems, and unique, custom approaches to address the influx of novel approaches and technologies putting marketplace and users at risk. 

  • Investigates security and quality issues post-launch of new platform features. 

  • Develops holistic mitigation solutions in partnership with engineering, business, and operational partners. 

  • Solves and executes against complex technical risk exposure issues identified through investigations. 

  • Performs post-launch quality reviews for internal partner escalated cases and high priority risk areas.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

 Minimum required education, work experiences, and skills: (Refer to Technical Requirements section below)

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Technology, or related technology discipline.

OR

Equivalent technical experience

  • 5+ Experience of search, display and/or native advertising experience or working in a technical organization preferably in the online industry for a high-volume commercial website or service.

  • 5+ years’ experience in data analysis and use of statistical software.

  • 5+ years knowledge of ad fraud detection techniques and tools.

  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, or R for scripting and automation.

  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts and their application in fraud detection.

  • Experience in web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and online tracking mechanisms (cookies, web beacons).

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically.

  • Must possess strong English language skills (speaking, reading, writing, presenting) and ability to give instructions and directions, document, present and communicate complex technical issues to both technical experts and non-technical audiences at all levels within organizations.
