We are particularly interested in candidates to coordinate our Securian Math Learning Lab (SML). These are non-tenure-track appointments for fall semester 2024 and spring semester 2025, with possible extension as needed by the department. The appointment starts August 19, 2024. Candidates will be considered for the rank Assistant Professor or Instructor, determined by qualifications. A Ph.D. is required for the rank of Assistant Professor (9403) and a master's degree is required for the rank of Instructor (9404). Applicants should be able to teach a wide range of mathematics and/or statistics courses including courses in our Securian Math Learning Lab, show evidence of teaching excellence and demonstrate a commitment to working with a diverse student population. Classes taught in the SML are taught in a modified emporium style and include College Algebra and Basic Math. For more information email kpete@d.umn.edu. Duties & Responsibilities include teaching (approximately 90%) and service (approximately 10%). Teaching duties include the following: develop and teach courses, demonstrate high command of the subject matter, have well organized course plans and deliver courses clearly to students, help students fulfill their academic need, assessment and grading, and hold office hours. Service duties include meeting attendance, committee work and other service and outreach activities. Qualifications Required Qualifications Master's (9404) or Ph.D. (9403) in statistics, mathematics, or related field awarded by the time of appointment from a regionally accredited institution with a Ph.D. preferred. Preferred Qualifications Previous teaching experience at the collegiate level(such as teaching assistant experience) to a diverse group of students, evidence of effective teaching, evidence of scholarship in statistics, mathematics, or related field, and effective written and oral communication skills appropriate to the position. A Ph.D. credential is preferred. Prior experience in a coordinator role or an Emporium teaching model is preferred for the SML coordinator position.
