Our Goal:

Our purpose is to ensure that CAT machines meet our end user’s quality expectations by promoting validation earlier in the product development cycle. The role’s strategy is to move product validation activities forward in time, into the concept and design phases of NPI programs. We do this by leveraging our people’s application & validation knowledge, world-class evaluation methods, innovation, and best practices across the enterprise. The results of this individual’s work will be test machines (i.e. testbed, prototype, pilot, etc.) that arrive at any Proving Ground or Customer Site for machine validation in good operating condition, technical & program risks quantified, and machine & system validation plans are thorough and documented.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Create a validation strategy and activity plan, collaboratively, with systems and global machine development groups (in some cases, lead that validation strategy/plan).

  • Determine program validation costs based on development plans

  • Educate product groups on validation expectations and key processes.

  • Drive usage of such tools such as the Proactive Reliability Process, Design Verification Plan & Report’s (DVP&R) and Requirement Based Virtual Product Development to evaluate the effectiveness of the validation activity plan on critical failure modes, and direct activities to mitigate risk.

  • The Validation Engineer shares best practices with the design teams, using tools such as Machine Readiness Summary (MRS) and presentations from the best practitioners; this activity is key to improving the likelihood of a successful machine validation.

  • As validation needs become known for which there is no robust validation method, the validation engineer will collaborate with teams to assess the risk and develop a plan.

  • Prepare and present Machine Readiness Summary and Risk Assessment for NPI programs

  • Stay abreast of product new content and share w/ appropriate teams

  • Provide guidance to machine configurations for testing/validation

  • Follow programs through NPI program cycle.

  • Effective training, relationship building, & engagement of other Validation Engineers.
