Indian Health Service Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic in Eagle Butte, South Dakota

Summary This position is located at the Cheyenne River Health Center in Eagle Butte, SD. The main purpose of this position is to perform complex HVAC duties. Responsibilities Maintains, installs and repairs refrigeration and air conditioning systems located in such areas as hospitals and office buildings and other facilities. Maintains systems by checking performance, diagnosing problems, and making necessary repairs or adjustments or by replacing defective parts, such as those which control low side and high side pressure, temperature of the cooling units, pressure and temperature of the liquid and suction lines and the running time of the various mechanisms. Properly installs refrigeration and air conditioning systems by positioning compressors, motors, condensers, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, evaporators, heaters, and other components in accordance with the design specifications. Starts units and adjusts them for proper cut-in and cut-out of refrigerating units, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, heaters, air cleaners, pneumatic air dryers and circulating pumps. Adjusts and maintains all HVAC systems for optimum performance. Frequently carries, lifts, pulls or pushes carts and equipment weighing up to and beyond 50 pounds. Work is sometimes performed on ladders and / or scaffolds, which requires employee to work overhead or in stretched, cramped or awkward positions. Working Conditions for this position is performed indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather, on elevated structures, and in cramped areas. Employee has exposure to the possibility of scrapes, infections and has the occasional exposure to serious injury. Subject to discomfort from face masks and/or other protective devices when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants, noxious gases, fumes, or acids. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education There are no education requirements. Additional Information Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. If an exemption is approved then wearing a face mask and regular testing for COVID-19 will be required.
