A BRIEF OVERVIEW The Additive Design Engineer is responsible for creating and converting additive design models and processes to enable manufacturing capability with Orchid's EBM technology. Working alongside program management, manufacturing, and quality engineering across the organization, they will serve as a key technical design resource. The Additive Design Engineer evaluates complex product designs and utilizes 3D CAD systems and Additive Manufacturing Software to support EBM design and printing. They have experience with additive manufacturing design processes, and the impact of downstream operations to overall product design. In addition, they will be a key team member in the planning and execution of NPI as it relates to additive manufacturing. The Additive Design Engineer reports to the Director, Additive Manufacturing and works alongside both Quality and Manufacturing Engineering.

WHAT YOU WILL DO Serve has key technical design resource for additive manufacturing projects. Execute the mechanical design, analysis, and evaluation of products produced using additive manufacturing (EBM) technology. Understand and incorporate downstream manufacturing operation requirements into AM design models (e.g. machining stock, dimensional impact from heat treat and HIP operations). Assist in time and cost estimates. Develop manufacturing best practices for company by using knowledge of GD&T and use of precision measuring instruments. Participate in Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM) reviews with internal teams. Review drawings, 3D models, and specifications to facilitate manufacturability. Participate in and occasionally lead problem solving teams utilizing lean manufacturing methods. Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews with internal teams. Review drawings, 3D models, and specifications to facilitate manufacturability. Create, request, and/or update various documentation including customer-specific requirements, non-disclosure agreements, routings, and Bill of Materials. Assist in designing and managing the fabrication or acquisition of fixtures used in various processes. Ensure the successful implementation of fixtures on the production floor. Assist in creating programs (such as Laser Marking programs),3D models, associates fixtures, drawings, templates, overlays, etc. Participate in and occasionally lead problem solving teams utilizing lean manufacturing methods. Collaborate with Operations Analysts to ensure data is available, monitored, and reported with a consistent approach. Support implementation of any management system at the site level. Participate in ensuring processes are in place to deliver site annual and strategic objectives, including but not limited to OEE and VAPD performance, productivity, capacity planning, and capital investment. Participate in the required training that is delivered to the site team in support of site goals, objectives, and program management milestones. Assist in creating Standard Work Instructions for various operations Interact and communicate with customers to inform them of critical details on new product launches.
