SMX is seeking a Senior Modeling and Simulation Engineer to support a new USINDOPACOM J5 initiative to develop an AI/ML enabled plans and wargaming capability (STORMBREAKER). As the Mod/Sim Director, you will be working on an accelerated development project in support of a high priority Department of Defense program. This position requires experience in designing, developing deploying software, collaboration with cross-functional teams, integration of existing capabilities and development of new applications.
You will play a pivotal role in the creation of innovative and engaging experiences on a new platform designed to develop technology solutions for big data environments that illuminate critical capabilities and vulnerabilities for DoD planners.
The candidate for this position must have strong interpersonal skills to be able to communicate effectively. They must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, make decisions in the midst of ambiguity and meet deadlines. The successful candidate must be a self-starter that needs minimal supervision.
Essential Responsibilities
Identify and integrate M&S tools for DoD and the joint planning process that will provide analytics on military plan effectiveness and combat power generation
Design, develop, implement, verify and test algorithms to support a combat adjudicator that will test and measure Courses of Action (COAs) within the Joint Planning Process
Accelerating the delivery of a mod/sim module to our customers through the integration of existing capabilities into the STORMBREAKER platform
Addresses unmet technical needs by integrating existing capabilities, developing and verifying new methods and techniques and leveraging knowledge of the product portfolio
Manage the mod/sim team and guide developers to build/test/refine new capabilities and effectively incorporate into the STORMBREAKER simulation capability
Establishes effective solutions for complex problems that involve interaction of several technical disciplines using technical analysis and problem-solving capabilities
Identify modeling and simulation gaps, assess capability gaps, and recommend solutions
Manage other software developers and engineers within the team to solve design challenges and ensure a level of design consistency and coherence across the digital development team
Have a high attention to detail, working closely with business and technical stakeholders to drive measurable results
Required Skills & Experience
Ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret SCI clearance which requires US citizenship for work on a DoD contract
Experience creating prototypes and products for direct use by a customer
In-depth understanding of modeling and sim design systems as well as AI/ML tools and capabilities
4 years' experience working as a Software Engineer in C++ Experience with high performance and multi-threaded programming
Experience in the gaming or military simulation fields delivering configurable scenario-based environments for war-gaming
Demonstrated curiosity and ability to learn outside of core discipline
Experience with different platforms supports: Web (Desktop + Mobile), Native (Mobile + Tablet)
Experience with planning and conducting user research, user testing, A/B testing and rapid prototyping
Experience managing agile development processes
Experience with cloud based deployment of applications/capabilities
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree
Some travel may be required
