Responsibilities

The Engineering Manager is responsible for delivering the overall project Engineering objectives leading the development and harmonization of design deliverables across multiple ISBL’s needed to execute the project within budget, on schedule, and ensuring that the required operability is achieved. The Engineering Manager is also responsible for collaborating with the Project Managers and Project Director to mitigate risk, communicate progress, plan resources, and control costs. Notably, this person will develop a high-performance project team culture which drives service excellence and cost efficient design.

  • Provide leadership, direction and mentorship to multi-disciplinary Engineering teams to develop high quality solutions on time, within budget and to customer requirements, in all locations managed by Fluor where project work is being performed

  • Lead and develop a high performing engineering team

  • Ensure Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) standards are emphasized throughout all phases of the project and demonstrating operational excellence in areas such as HSE, client service excellence, and team performance.

  • Lead internal engineering teams and external EPC teams throughout the FEL process to develop commercial scale design deliverables that meet the project objectives

  • Regularly evaluate & mitigate issues that create risk to meeting project objectives

  • Closely track and communicate project progress to stakeholders

  • Promote use of Eastman Capital Process and implement the appropriate Eastman Worldwide Engineering and Construction Capital Processes, e.g. Value Improving Practice, Gates and Audits, Front-End Loading, etc

  • Ensure involvement of appropriate personnel in the development and implementation of capital projects from Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Operations, and Maintenance (EPCOM)

  • Use strict change management protocol to manage scope & schedule impacts

  • Work with Project Controls personnel and the Project Manager to monitor, report, and document the progress of work and provide feedback on budget and schedule deviations

  • Provide feedback to Project Team on critical issues and action plans to preclude project problems.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience on large (>$100M) capital projects with multiple asset pillars in an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) process or comparable arrangement required.

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Chemical required.

  • Candidate should have a thorough understanding of and experience with capital processes, from project definition through plant start-up.  

  • Candidate must have outstanding communication and coordination skills and demonstrated team leadership skills.   

  • Strong business acumen and judgment, with the ability to anticipate future opportunities or problems and develop effective strategies. The ability to be innovative and resolve issues involving complexity and ambiguity.

  • Accountable, able to set high goals and standards personally and with team members. Can be counted on to deliver what has been agreed to. Plans, prioritizes, and executes work based on clearly defined outcomes and expectations. Is clear about the results defined;

  • Adaptability, showing resilience and flexibility when dealing with new people, situations and changing conditions. Demonstrated ability to think quickly and flexibly while adapting to changing situations. Looks objectively at needed change and keeps the bigger picture in mind when faced with ambiguity or uncertainty. Proven history of executing change effectively, including influencing key stakeholders as change is being considered and implemented.

  • Decisive, with a sense of urgency and ability to drive issues to closure and with a good negotiating skills. Anticipates consequences by thinking proactively about problems and opportunities. Quickly and confidently shifts direction, sometimes in the face of incomplete information. Leverages past experiences to adeptly formulate plans and take action. This includes a proactive, goal orientated performance mindset with the initiative to influence events positively, lead Fluor project teams, and influence client for decision-making.

  • Articulate, with an outgoing style, with the ability to build commitment and inspire people. Projects a positive image of the organization internally and externally. The ability to build and sustain the required top level external network.

  • Able to influence a group of diverse individuals, each with their own goals, needs, and perspectives, to work together effectively for the good of a project;

  • Has a track record of building highly effective teams. The ability to delegate effectively and hold people to account. Aligns people and organizations to achieve goals and objectives. Gains support from others by promoting ideas and concepts in a convincing manner through discussion and negotiation. Moves ideas forward without pushing or forcing. Global awareness and cultural acumen (sensitivity) are must-have competencies, given Fluor’s global distributed execution platforms, workforce, and client base. Can easily be direct or diplomatic depending on the needs of individuals and organizations.

  • Must be able to travel as needed based on project needs

  • Open to relocation to the investment site as project demands ramp up
