The Human Health and Performance Contract is seeking an entry level Systems Engineer for an upcoming NASA exploration project in the Houston, Texas area. This position is a support role developing and integrating next generation technology, processes and design, into flight solutions that will enable astronauts and the program to safely return to the lunar surface. In this role, the candidate will define and manage system requirements, verification and validation activity, help define the system architecture, evaluate system characteristics and performance, lead integration efforts, participate in testing of work products and support the lifecycle review process. In addition, duties will include participation in design reviews, risk and opportunity management and leveraging subject matter experts to execute technical strategy. Candidates will also routinely be required to work with innovative technology, design and processes developed internally by NASA and externally by leading technology companies and will perform trade studies and execute down select. As such, a desire to understanding the Systems Engineering lifecycle process is required.

This position will support projects in the development of an operable system capable of meeting requirements within imposed constraints including mass, cost and schedule. In this role, the candidate will design and/or research subsystem interfaces to ensure that subsystems are integrated and work together to form a viable complete system; perform functional analysis of a system to ensure it meets performance criteria and mission constraints and to feed the analysis results back to the subsystem development teams; prepare design sketches and general equipment design of simple parts, subsystem interfaces, system layouts; perform relatively simple engineering and mathematical formulas and computations; prepare analysis of technical data and information resulting from tests, studies, analysis, assist other technical personnel in the preparation of technical reports, graphs and charts. Primary contact is immediate supervisor. The candidate will perform all other duties as assigned. BS degree in engineering or applied science with no experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company’s safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel

  • Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and procedures

  • Responsible for completing all assigned training

  • Responsible for creating and delivering systems engineering artifacts such as Concepts of Operations, requirements, traces, allocations, system architectures and design solutions, trade studies, interface definitions, verification and validation planning and execution

  • Ability to work within a dynamic team environment

  • Ability to participate in system testing

  • Ability to perform system operations and sustainment activities

  • Excellent skills in both written and verbal communication

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related discipline

  • Experience with leading technical projects

  • Experience designing and leading complex system development which includes both hardware and software configuration items

  • Ability to occasionally travel

  • Experience with interpersonal skills in a teaming environment where collaboration and communication are critical to the functioning of the team

  • Experienced technical problem solver

    Desired Skills: Experience with the following:

  • Passion for Systems Engineering

  • Experience in systems engineering involving system requirements, functional decomposition and allocation, functional integration, integrated design, analysis and evaluation, verification

  • Requirements Development

  • Experience with Development Assurance, Certification and Safety Analysis

  • Cradle or DOORs or similar requirements development software and its application across all elements of systems engineering and artifact linkage

  • Model Based Systems Engineering

    This position is expected to be 100% onsite.

SKILLS/TRAINING

REQUIRED:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, project leads, customers, and with contract colleagues is essential.

  • Ability to attain and maintain respect and confidence of the customer and contract personnel. A close, cooperative customer interface is essential.

  • Mature, professional judgment in establishing objectives, milestones and priorities.

  • Reliable and dependable work habits and the dedication to get the job done.

DESIRED:

  • Experience with NASA or DoD Work Instructions and MBSE practices

  • Prior experience with the NASA flight hardware development process

  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
