Asphalt Materials, Inc Mine Engineer Intern in Indianapolis, Indiana

MINE ENGINEER INTERN

LOCATION: INDIANAPOLIS, IN

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: INTERNSHIP

The Mining Engineer Intern will work directly with Engineering and Quality Control Departments to support mine planning and stripping activities on existing and new facilities. The role will include responsibility for both short and long-term mine planning and execution of land reclamation strategies. The Mining Engineer Intern will also assist in the preparation and logging of drilling/coring activities to help create mine plans. The Mining Engineer will take on and complete a project for the summer in either the Engineering or Quality Control department.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner with internal experts to develop mine plans and provide coordination of operational activity with an optimal resource utilization strategy
  • Coordinate with internal team (production, sales) to establish stripping campaigns to meet production requirements
  • Develop long term strategic plans for land, to include reclamation, re-use and divesture
  • Maintain extensive Excel spreadsheets for stripping and coring data

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mining, Mechanical, Civil, or Structural)
  • Credits of a Junior or higher preferred
  • Focus on Mine Engineering preferred
  • Experience in CAD (Carlson or Civil 3D preferred) software necessary for developing detailed mine and stripping (cut/fill) plans
  • The ability to partner with appropriate levels within the organization
  • Ability to travel at least fifty percent to perform field duties
  • Strong relationship skills and commitment to continuous improvement
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
  • Experience managing and prioritizing multiple priorities while maintaining positive relationships and operating in a high level of integrity
  • High degree of both emotional and intellectual intelligence
  • Independent, confident thinker with a high comfort level with ambiguity
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent skills in Excel and other Microsoft Office software
