In support of our growth as a leading IoT Solutions Accelerator, Mesh Systems seeks to hire a Senior Hardware Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be a member of our cohesive IoT solutions team working in a modern agile environment. You and your colleagues will design, develop, assemble, test, troubleshoot, and deliver next-generation hardware components as a critical part of end-to-end IoT Solutions, from NTI to NPD to Sustaining. This is a hybrid position with both work from home/in-office, and work will be based out of our Things Lab & HQ in Indianapolis, IN (specifically Carmel, IN) or Innovation Center in Appleton, WI, reporting director to Director of Things Engineering.

Job Responsibilities

  • Guide the design and development of complex hardware systems from concept to production, ensuring performance, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to integrate hardware components into complete systems and optimize system-level performance

  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to evaluate design alternatives and make informed decisions

  • Design and simulate analog and digital circuits, PCB layouts, and system architectures using industry-standard tools (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCAD, Cadence, SPICE)

  • Perform hardware testing, validation, and debugging to verify and validate designs against specifications and standards

  • Experience with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Cellular communication modules, antennas, and components

  • Document design specifications, test procedures, and engineering reports to support product development and regulatory compliance

  • Conduct thorough design reviews and provide technical guidance to fellow engineers

  • Stay updated on emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in hardware design and engineering

  • Support manufacturing, testing, and debugging activities to ensure successful product launch and commercialization

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field

  • 7 or more years of experience in hardware design and development, with a focus on microcontrollers, FPGAs, ASICs, and/or other hardware platforms

  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality hardware designs on schedule and within budget

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or electronics assembly environment

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment

  • Must be willing to travel locally, to support small-batch product builds

  • Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy equipment and components

  • Enthusiasm and energy to look at hardware differently and for all things electronics and software in the IoT and Lab space

Interesting Capabilities

  • Familiarity with PDM/PLM and quality control processes

  • Engineering process and change management experience – ECN, BOM, RFQ, etc.

  • PCB Design knowledge and/or experience – DfX, EMC/EMI, signal integrity, power distribution, etc.

  • IPC Standards knowledge

  • Specific PCB test experiences – High-Heat-Humidity, ESD, Environmental, FCC, etc.
