This position is for scientific investigation of the developmental origins of disease focusing on cell migration and cell plasticity and their relationship to human birth defects of the brain and peripheral nervous system. The goal of the research is to better understand the mechanisms underlying cell migration and differentiation during normal development and the connections between the highly invasive neural crest and neuronal migration observed during brain development including how mistakes in the latter may give rise to diseases including cortical dysplasia. Such understanding is critical to the development of more accurate diagnostics and treatment strategies.
