Job Overview:
The Associate Subsea Engineer will be supporting FEED/EPCIC projects with engineering activities related to shallow water and deepwater subsea pipeline lateral buckling analysis, pipeline walking analysis, fracture mechanics and 3D structural analysis. This position is within the Advance Analysis team and requires someone who is analytically minded with strong engineering skills to perform numerically intensive calculations. Learns the content and application of relevant industry codes, standards, guidelines, design methods and analysis.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Perform detailed design engineering, analysis, and calculations on basic engineering tasks related to Subsea Engineering tasks for installation of offshore facilities including jackets and topsides
Apply knowledge and skills to complete routine assignments under close supervision and mentoring
Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses including design reports and procedures
Organize own work to meet deadlines set by others
Tender engineering support with emphasis on document review, assist with the preparation of subcontractor documents, bid evaluation and vendor selection
Assist senior engineers with preparation of technical reports, design calculations, engineering analysis and interface with third parties including subcontractors and verification bodies
Required to attend and prepare for project progress meetings and departmental meetings
Gain an understanding of the project scope of work, specifications, schedule and all inter-discipline requirements
Prepare sketches of detail design to guide Designers and check drawings
Keep the Area Lead/ Lead Engineer apprised of all activities, progress and concerns
Develop an awareness of costs related to own work
Develop basic understanding of McDermott's business and customers it serves
Develop basic knowledge of McDermott's business units and interactions including engineering, fabrication and marine functions
Develop advanced skills in use of standard productivity tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Understand and apply standards and procedures
Capture project lessons learned into McDermott’s Lessons Learned system
Participate in internal, customer or third-party technical audits on engineering deliverables and vendor documents
Essential Qualifications and Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Structural or Marine Engineering
Exposure to finite element analysis packages (Abaqus, ANSYS)
Good knowledge in programing skills (Python, VBA or C++) is an advantage
Excellent verbal and written communication
Attention to detail and the ability to think outside the box for innovative solutions
