Job Purpose:

Under general guidance, work on development of aftertreatment components and related emissions control strategies. As a Senior Aftertreatment Design Engineer, you will work on design, development, validation and deployment of modern engine and engine emissions solutions for our Locomotive, Marine, and Electric Power Generation product lines. You will develop system designs and architecture, define strategies and controls, and work with the program lead and development team to integrate strategies into a working system that meets program needs. Significant coordination and interfacing are required across organizations to execute job responsibilities.

Education / Training:

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Electrical or Mechanical Engineering curriculum

• > 4 years experience developing and/or working with engine emissions controls or aftertreatment.

Key Job Elements:

• Development and validation of aftertreatment system features.

• Leading role in the established process for resolution of aftertreatment/controls product issues (CPI).

• Support of product certification efforts.

• Project planning and resource coordination of remote and local FEA, CFD, design and test resources.

• Integration of existing emissions control modules into new locomotive or marine applications.

• Design requirements and specifications development.

Qualifications and Experience:

Basic Qualifications:

• Experience/familiarity with engine emissions control solutions.

• Ability to lead/drive resolution of complex technical issues.

• Excellent organization, communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.

• Emphasis on initiative, strong technical insight, and integrity.

Top Candidates will also have:

• Working experience with the chemistry of aftertreatment technologies.

• Experience/ familiarity emissions control

calibration.

• Experience utilizing development and data analysis tools (e.g. CANape, Python, MATLAB, Simulink).

• Working knowledge of FEA and CFD analysis.

• Prior experience with Marine, power generation and locomotive engine applications.

Additional Information:

• Location of this position is in LaGrange IL;

• This position may requires 10-15% travel.

Essential and Physical Activities Functions:

• Strength – Position typically involves work in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment. Frequent/constant sitting. Occasional standing and walking. Occasional light-level lifting or carrying (up to 10 pounds);

• Motion – Position regularly requires standard motions associated with working in an office environment;

• Vision/Hearing Requirements – Frequent verbal communications, including both talking and hearing;

• Work Environment – Position is typically located in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment which may include a non-temperature-controlled environment, as well as exposure to noise (85+ decibels), occasional exposure to temperature changes, heavy machinery and other hazardous working conditions requiring the use of PPE;

• Emotional Demands – Very high level of responsibility. Must be able to coordinate diverse aspects of a project. Requires significant interpersonal skills while sustaining very high standards. Domestic and international travel as required;

• Safety – Position may occasionally require the use of Personal Protective Equipment during visits to industrial areas.
