Job Description:

This posting is for a year round internship working in the Caterpillar Oil and Gas team at the facilities in Lafayette, Indiana. The position will include part-time work during the semesters (12-20 hrs) and a (40 hrs) during the summer months.

In completing this assignment, the successful candidate will gain exposure to:

  • Development of programming skills (SQL, Python/Django, VBA, VB/C# or others)

  • Practical opportunities to exercise problem solving skills on open ended assignments

  • Expand project management capabilities

  • Experience in collaboration and team work across multiple functional disciplines

  • Deeper understanding of back office systems including ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), Relational Databases and Business Intelligence reporting tools

  • Opportunities to learn more about Caterpillar's reciprocating engines, transmissions, gas compression and well service pumping products

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities will be in the creation of department utilities to assist various process improvement and data management projects. This will require a range of skill sets including:

  • Capturing technical requirements

  • Understanding product structure and working with both engineering/marketing teams

There will be multiple process improvement projects available including creation of price list product structure to ensure accurate Bill of Material, enhancing automation of 3-D modeling and 2-D drawing creation and improving standard work using various automation techniques.

This assignment will expose you to the Oil & Gas industry at Caterpillar which covers gas compression, drilling, production and well service segments. Additionally, opportunities will be present to gain a fundamental understanding of how to drive business results in a global market.

Required Qualifications:

- Must be enrolled as a Full-Time student at an accredited 4-year university pursuing a degree in: Engineering/Technology or related degree.

- Minimum Cumulative GPA: 3.0/4.0 scale (no rounding)

- Applicant must be able to work at the Lafayette, Indiana facility a minimum of 15 - 20 hours per week during the school year as well as 40 hours per week during the summer

- Graduation date: December 2019 and beyond and completion of 24 credit hours at the 4 year university prior to June 2019

- Applicant must be able to complete a daily commute to the Lafayette facility and maintain FT student status.
