We are seeking Editorial Section Managers for Heliyon, an all-science, open access, Cell Press journal. About the Role

We are seeking Editorial Section Managers for Heliyon, an all-science, open access, Cell Press journal. We have ambitious plans for 2024 and this is an exciting opportunity for university graduates to start their career in scientific publishing. Reporting to an Editorial Team Leader, the Editorial Section Manager will be part of our editorial support teams in the United Kingdom with the primary responsibility of managing one or more of our scientific sections, developing its respective editorial teams, and coordinating the flow of new and revised manuscripts from submission through publication, which requires frequent and consistent contact with scientific editors, authors, and editorial referees. Scientific literacy in a life science is required for the role of the Editorial Section Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the smooth operation of sections within the journal through collaboration with our international scientific editors.

  • Developing the editorial teams of the journal and ensure trusted relationships with the scientific editors of Heliyon

  • Managing high volume of internal and external e-mail correspondence, providing exceptional customer service to authors, reviewers, and staff.

  • Guiding manuscripts through an online database from initial submission through to final editorial decision.

  • Perform technical and administrative checks on manuscripts for compliance with the journal’s standard after submission, revision and in preparation for acceptance.Monitoring the peer review process with a goal of obtaining timely feedback from editors and reviewers.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the business on projects to improve Heliyon.

Requirements

  • Have a scientific background (undergraduate level) in Life sciences, especially for Genetics and Biochemistry

  • Have a talent for exceptional communication in written and spoken English, and a focus on hospitality.

  • Possess an enthusiastic attitude, great analytical skill and the ability to pay close attention to detail.

  • Be able to adapt to change, handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and to prioritize individually.

  • Have great interpersonal skill within an international team.

  • Be able to work equally well collaboratively or individually without continuous supervision in an ever-changing environment

  • Be PC proficient with expertise in Microsoft Office (particularly Outlook and Excel).

  • Be able to work unrestricted within the UK
