UCLA Health Research Assistant - Neurosurgery in Los Angeles, California

Description

This will be a full-time 100% career position in the Department of Neurosurgery in the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. The Research Assistant position is immediately available in the laboratory of the Principal Investigators, to study the relationship of cerebral blood flow to intracranial pressure and leverage this understanding to facilitate recovery for patients with disorders of intracranial pressure maintenance and cerebrovascular disorders. The qualified candidate should have background in the scientific method, data analysis, and statistics. The individual will assist and facilitate animal and human experiments. Specifically, the candidate will assist in conducting animal and human based experiments in cerebral arteriovenous flow and its inter-relation with intracranial pressure. Additionally, experience with and / or ability to learn basic ultrasound operation and interpretation are sought. Training will be a continuous feature of this position. This researcher will be working on innovative research and as such will learn new techniques as they apply to emerging projects and teach other research personnel as necessary. Administrative work will be required, including maintenance of records, approval of protocols, laboratory maintenance, scheduling of experiments, training volunteers, assisting with maintaining IRB and coordinating subject appointments with administrative assistants. We are seeking independent, motivated individual with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Salary Range: $25.75 - $30.71 Hourly

Qualifications

Required:

Ability to manage a multi-functional staff of diverse operational services.

Ability to train personnel to support day-to-day laboratory function

Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with staff, faculty, administration, campus entities, and external sources.

Skill in planning, directing, controlling and evaluating long-term goals.

Ability to creatively recommend and implement solutions

Ability to develop and suggest solutions to material or processes in laboratory to be cost efficient and to further laboratory goals.

Ability to proofread for accuracy, correct grammar, punctuation spelling, and syntax.

Ability to work with a variety of individuals from the University and from outside institutions.

Ability to work with frequent interruptions.

Ability to maintain a well-stocked laboratory.

Knowledge of computer software and hardware problem solving solutions.

Knowledge of basic laboratory safety and regulations

Ability to complete, submit, and obtain approval for animal protocols and human IRB protocols.

Previous experience in or ability to learn imaging techniques (Ultrasound Doppler).

Ability to train new personnel on techniques learned.

Maintain accurate records of experiments and results both in writing and computerized database.

Ability to order supplies, track expenditures for supplies, lab maintenance, telephones, and other recurring expenses; responsible for general maintenance upkeep of laboratory equipment; train new personnel in the use of laboratory equipment; ensure laboratory is in compliance with various safety requirements, supervision of student lab helpers.

Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with great organizational skills

Preferred:

Ability to organize assignments, set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete assignments with minimal supervision.

Interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, faculty and administrators. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and competing priorities. General knowledge of UCLA policies and procedures.

Ability to train others on a variety of processes and projects in a clear and concise manner.

Ability to work some nights and weekends
