Manufacturing Engineering Manager


Caterpillar Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) designs and manufactures diesel, gas and reman engines, ranging from 400 kilowatts to 16 megawatts of power, and the key engine systems such as fuel, air, aftertreatment and cooling which are used to power oil & gas, electric power, marine, rail and Cat machine applications around the world.

LPSD is currently looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to join our talented team at the Mapleton, IL facility. In this role you will manage a team of 20 management and production employees responsible for our micro-foundry. The micro-foundry plays a critical role in our source of supply by producing high velocity, low-volume castings as well as prototyping and modeling sample components for New Product Introduction (NPI) projects.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide supervisory support to Operations and Product Managers for micro-foundry processes

  • Work closely with product engineering and operations managers to ensure common goals in support of product group objectives

  • Develop and negotiate quotes with internal and external customers

  • Use computer aided design to provide graphic job instructions

  • Use NC and robotic programs

  • Utilize 3D Printing processes to produce models for NTI programs

  • Ensure relevant regulatory compliance

  • Coordinate release dates and availability of machines, equipment and material schedules to satisfy demand

  • Establish standards and works with shop personnel to resolve problems related to process, tooling, equipment, etc.

  • Provide project management support for major systems and equipment installations

  • Provide training and development for direct reports

  • Provides technical input and management approval for relevant projects


Required Qualifications:

  • Technical school or Bachelor degree in an engineering and/or manufacturing/operations-related discipline

  • 5 years of manufacturing experience

  • 3 years of foundry experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2 years of supervisory experience

  • General knowledge of magma casting simulation

  • General knowledge of 3D modeling procedures

  • Good communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills

  • Thorough knowledge of the planning system, manufacturing operations, facilities, methods and tooling

  • Analytical skills
