Government and Public Sector-Digital and Emerging Technologies-Senior Consultant/Technical Advisor

The opportunity

In this role, you will provide technical and scientific consulting advisory support across a range of different types of engagements with a focus on emerging technology fields. You will support the development of new research and development (R&D) programs, assess client gaps and link them to solutions from emergent, disruptive technologies; identify and source technology solutions; develop strategies and roadmaps around emerging technology; set the stage for development, adoption, and commercialization; and develop and deploy novel solutions. Having a mixed technical and consulting mind-set and excellent scientific communications skills will be critical for success.

Your key responsibilities

  • Work as a technical consultant to support the development of advanced science & technology efforts focused on emerging technology

  • Provide input to government clients by researching and recommending new emerging technology programs

  • Lead the development of technical plans for technology evaluation and/or programmatic operations

  • Lead the creation and review of recommendations to mitigate technical and schedule risk for projects

  • Lead the development of workshops and other planning sessions to achieve program objectives

  • Provide independent analysis and assessment of research results

  • Provide in-depth feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of project plans, objectives, and methodologies

  • Lead the development and tracking of metrics and key performance indicators

  • Lead the development of briefings, reports, and other presentations to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to a broad range of stakeholders

  • Coordinate with stakeholders across government and industry to facilitate transition and follow-on development efforts of emerging technologies

  • Mentor less experienced members of the team

To qualify for the role, you should have

  • Technical degree in relevant field, such as, but not limited to:

  • Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering

  • Biomedical Engineering and Synthetic Biology

  • Biosciences

  • Chemical Engineering

  • Chemistry

  • Civil Engineering

  • Cognitive, Neural, and Behavioral Sciences

  • Computer Science and Engineering

  • Cybersecurity

  • Data Science and Analytics

  • Ecology

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Environmental Sciences

  • Geosciences

  • Industrial and Systems Engineering

  • Materials Science and Engineering

  • Mathematics

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Ocean Engineering

  • Nuclear Engineering

  • Operations Research

  • Physics

  • 5-8+ years of professional experience delivering high-quality work products

  • 3+ years of team management and client development experience

  • Demonstrated experience in new business development and supporting existing client relationships

  • Excellent analytical, project management, communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated experience authoring technical papers, reports, or program plans

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and leading teams for scientific communications products for a range of audience types

  • Experience assessing project plans and proposals for technical merit and/or approach feasibility

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. government security clearance

Ideally, you'll also have

  • A master's degree and/or PhD in a relevant field

  • Active U.S. government security clearance; Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance or higher, which will be driven by the engagement requirements.

  • Experience in a client-facing work environment

  • Experience developing new client relationships and business

  • Experience working as a technical advisor supporting a federal government agency

Due to the nature of our work in the Government and Public Sector, work may be required to be completed at client, EY and/or contractor sites. Our goal is to assign professionals to projects within a commutable distance of their work location office. In certain circumstances, travel may be required beyond your work location based on client and project needs. Candidates should be willing to travel on average 25% to 30% or more in a hybrid environment.

What we offer

We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The salary range for this job in most geographic locations in the US is $119,900 to $219,800. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $143,900 to $249,800. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances. You’ll also be granted time off for designated EY Paid Holidays, Winter/Summer breaks, Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being.
