Our Savannah Operations is a part of our Howmet Structures Systems and is a heavy industrial Forging manufacturing plant located in Midway, Georgia. We employ 200+ people and growing exponentially. We have an immediate opening for a Manufacturing Engineer (ISO Forge) to support our growing isothermal forging business.

Essential Functions:

Under limited direction, has technical ownership of processes critical to manufacturing aerospace hardware specifically related to isothermal while supporting Howmet to achieve established goals and financial targets. This is a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities and is not all inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

  • Develop, modify, improve, and troubleshoot the processes associated with the production of aerospace closed-die forgings.

  • Track forging and heat treatment processes performance as a function of materials, parts processed, or equipment.

  • Utilize various CAD platforms to review forgings, tooling & other assigned components.

  • Cooperate with process design and product development teams to identify best practices.

  • Support Operations with technical guidance associated with forging and heat treat practice.

  • Initiate and control cost reduction projects to achieve targets established by the business unit.

  • Document departures from approved practice for internal as well as external review.

  • Support operations with witnessing of new jobs or jobs needing improvement.

  • Implement effective method to capture lessons learned to minimize future technical issues.

  • Experience working multiple projects and complex data analysis in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control, utilization of statistics tools such as Minitab.

  • Problem solving experience such as DMAIC or 8D.

  • Knowledge and experience with Excel.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with operations, quality, maintenance, and finance.

  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned by management.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is rarely exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field;

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Materials Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering is preferred

  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • 6 Sigma Green Belt certification is preferred.

  • Work experience in the metals or aerospace industry

  • Work experience in forging, especially titanium and/or nickel-based superalloys.
