Caterpillar'sLarge Power Systems Division (LPSD) designs and manufactures diesel, gas andreman engines, ranging from 400 kilowatts to 16 megawatts of power, and the keyengine systems such as fuel, air, aftertreatment and cooling which are used topower oil & gas, electric power, marine, rail and Cat machineapplications around the world.

LPSD currently has an opening for an Engineering Manager - 1 position in our Medium Vee Engine Product Group located at our Mossville, IL facility. In this role, you will provide managerial and technical direction to a staff of salaried and management personnel including technical specialist(s) and supervisor(s) engaged in product or design, development or research activities related to one or more technology, component, product, or process which accomplish product maintenance and new product introduction objectives.

TheMedium Vee engine products range from 18 to 32 litres in displacement, andprovide power for Cat Machines as well as Commercial applications in Marine,Electric Power, Oil & Gas, Industrial and Rail markets. The engines areassembled in Caterpillar’s Griffin, Georgia Facility.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • The primary responsibility of this position is the leadership of the Medium Vee application engineering team.

  • Key responsibilities include developing capabilities of people and technology; consciously establishing a culture that encourages innovation, partnering and building collaborative relationships within Caterpillar and with suppliers and customers; and integrating products and services to meet customers’ needs.

  • Previous team leadership experience and product design skills are necessary. Advanced program management skills and deep understanding of engine component and system validation processes are highly desired. Position requires excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills and an ability to deal with sensitive issues, mentor and coach and/or persuade others on new technologies and processes.

  • This role is accountable for protecting Caterpillar’s intellectual property by properly classifying and restricting access to Caterpillar technical information related to their area of responsibility.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum

  • 10 years industry experience with progressively increasing levels of responsibility

  • 3 years in a Team Lead and/or Supervisory Role

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Master or Doctorate degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum

  • 5 years of experience with diesel or dual fuel engines

  • Proven history of being a high paced, dynamic, leader of people

  • Flexibility and willingness to manage multiple projects concurrently

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to work complex projects with many inputs and the ability to define actionable plans

  • Deep understanding of the Caterpillar NPI process

  • Experience with APQP, Validation, supplier development and Lean Principles

  • Passion to learn and grow as a leader
