Job Description

As a member of the Business Operations team, the Senior Manager, Business Operations will serve as a strategic and tactical partner to the Development Sciences function within AbbVie’s Research and Development organization. This role is primarily responsible for managing the operational and financial aspects of the Biologics CMC Development organization. This position will collaborate with functional leadership to plan projects and execute activities that align with departmental strategies, goals, and objectives.

The successful candidate will stay abreast of internal and external best practices and drive implementation of process improvements as appropriate. They will have significant input into strategic decision-making affecting assigned business areas.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead operational activities to enhance functional capabilities, efficiencies, and culture. This includes resource and capability planning, contracts management, demand/capacity modeling, facilitation and moderation of team meetings, and general support of departmental goals.

  • In collaboration with function leadership, forecast, construct, and manage budgets. Forecast and manage implications of alternative development scenarios.

  • Provide leadership and develop strategic recommendations to ensure all functional areas operate within the current Plan/Update budget.

  • Serve as local finance resource.

  • Support the advancement of broader Development Sciences Strategic objectives in collaboration with Business Operations leadership and peers. Participate in building group capabilities through process improvements and identification of issues/opportunities.

  • May be responsible for overseeing operations activities/ projects managed by others within the function(s).

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • BS or MS degree in a scientific or business field and typically 8-10+ years in a scientific or business function within the pharmaceutical industry.

  • ​​​​​​​ PhD may substitute for 2 years of industry experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of standard business processes and systems including project management practices, portfolio review, finance, and budgeting is strongly preferred.

  • Operations experience with large budget and matrixed environment is preferred.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and track record for successful project management.

  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills to achieve goals through interface with internal researchers and senior management.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively and efficiently in a dynamic environment with competing projects and deadlines. Ability to manage multiple priorities/projects.

  • Experienced in situations of conflict resolution and problem solving. Proactive and positive team player. Ability to build strong business relationships, foster teamwork, and influence decision-making at multiple levels.

Position will be hired based on level of experience.
