Carmeuse Americas Electrical Engineering Manager in PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania

The Electrical Engineering Manager is responsible for the coordination and execution of the electrical engineering activities for Carmeuse Americas. The Manager will be responsible for establishing team priorities, objectives, and vision for portfolio of plants within the Americas. This position will be the main point of contact for electrical engineering team resources. Responsible for engaging with Operations, Maintenance, and Project Management for technical reviews, providing guidance, troubleshooting, and support for items related to electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage electrical engineering team activities as they pertain to both capital projects and plant support activities.

  • Leads team, delegates work (internal & external) to ensure projects are appropriately staffed and milestones are achieved, prioritizes activities, and fosters vision for the electrical team. Typical work activities include, but are not limited to, developing scope of work, estimates, and Carmeuse standards/specifications. Reviews and approves work related to flow diagrams, P&ID’s, single lines, schematics, general arrangements, control narratives, commissioning plans, RFQ’s, bid evaluations, and vendor submittals including drawings and manuals. Further assists with process control systems, instrumentation selection & integration, data networks, Wonderware HMI’s, PLC, and other electrical components.

  • Provides plant assistance for troubleshooting electrical issues, site presence for support if required.

  • Provide direction to our 3 rd party electrical vendors, both engineering & construction. Review their work, providing feedback to changes noting Carmeuse specifications. Auditing performance and quality of work as needed.

  • Provide technical advice or electrical equipment selection, configuration, and troubleshooting issues. Systems typically include HV/MV/LV power lines; MV/LV transformers, switchgear, MCC’s, starters, VFD’s motors, and feeders. Support reviews of arc flash SKM model along with associated determinations and mitigation options.

  • Evaluates, mentors, and develops team members. Works with team members for development of business goals within group, alignment to corporate initiatives. Provides guidance and supports professional development (IDP) to team members.

  • Fosters a collaborative and innovated work environment.

  • Liaising with relevant professional staff, including engineers, inspectors, contractors, and other regulatory bodies.

  • Interfaces with all levels of management and employees to gather information to provide guidance for implementation including, but not limited to, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Maintain and develop expertise and proficiency in electrical system and design. Stay updated on industry trends and advancements.

  • Knowledge of electrical safety requirements. IEEE and NEC a must.

  • Drive continuous improvement in the engineering processes.

  • Supports training initiatives within the group. (Both hourly & salary)

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in electrical engineering.

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in heavy industry.

  • Proficiency with National Electrical Code, safe standards, and practices.

  • Proven track record in managing a team of professionals.

  • Professional engineer licensure is a plus.

  • Professional work experience in development and review of designs for electrical systems.

  • Ability to obtain MSHA certification.

  • Ability to travel up to 30%, primarily in the US and Canada. Overnight stays will be required and could include extended assignments during critical construction and start-up periods.
