THE OPPORTUNITY:

Our Neuromodulation business is a market leader in leveraging mobile, minimally-invasive implantable technologies to help people who suffer from chronic pain and movement disorders. Our chronic pain solutions include the Eterna™ System, Proclaim™ XR SCS System, Proclaim™ DRG Neurostimulator, the only FDA approved DRG therapy, and the IonicRF™ Generator for Radiofrequency Ablation. These non-opioid therapies allow us to provide interventional pain therapy to patients throughout the pain continuum. Our deep brain stimulation technology for progressive diseases help people manage their Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor symptoms, steering away from side effects. Our location in Plano, TX currently has an opportunity for a Senior Manager, Systems Engineering.

The Sr. Manager Systems Engineering plans and directs all aspects of systems engineering activities and projects within the Systems Engineering organization. The position ensures all systems engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in alignment with business objectives and quality system processes. Responsibilities include financial and performance accountability for systems engineering organization. The manager utilizes systems engineering methods and provides expert technical guidance for systems engineering initiatives and oversees systems engineers to ensure logical conversion of customer requirements and performance requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Use multidisciplinary engineering knowledge to implement engineering principles, industry best practices, and state of the art methodologies to optimize innovation cycles and deliver business critical elements in a dynamic, fast-paced industry. Responsible for leading a team of system and design engineers to solve problems and make sound design decisions, in accordance with corporate, divisional and applicable regulatory requirements. Provides leadership and mentoring to engineers with the capability to perform as a hands-on participant as necessary.

What You’ll Work On

  • Ensure technical integrity of the work products from group. Monitors performance of cross-functional teams against complex timelines; develops contingency plans as needed; recommends resource and strategy adjustments. Sets technical direction at the group and organizational level; exercise considerable discretion as to personal work details.

  • Define roles and responsibilities for direct reports to ensure distributed accountability. Ensure direct reports understand their jobs and how they will be measured against performing their jobs satisfactorily.

  • Perform resource planning and allocation. Perform resource management and alignment of capabilities to meet the strategic vision and needs of the business, including staffing of multiple concurrent programs. Determines the workload based on the complexity of the project for the different disciplines and manpower requirements to meet business objectives.

  • Provide career coaching and development. Be available and accessible to work with and help develop direct reports, including in areas of training and job opportunities. Engage in strategic competency development. Assess skill gaps and seek opportunities to transfer experience. Deals with performance issues in a timely manner establishing meaningful corrective action. Motivates staff and team members by ensuring each person understands the value of their work.

  • Build effective relationships. Be personally accountable for building and maintaining collaborative relationships with other R&D teams, Quality, Operations, Marketing and Commercial Groups. Work across functions with peers in other groups to ensure collaboration for shared goals. Seeks periodic feedback to ensure satisfaction is being met. Faces conflicts and takes initiative to resolve issues constructively so all parties can be productive; knows when to involve others.

  • Adapts Information to Customer Needs: Delivers communications tailored to the needs of the receiver; speaks and writes clearly and concisely. Makes Key Presentations: Delivers persuasive; and motivational presentations to influence employees; peers; regulatory agencies; and/or senior management. Articulates and translates department and/or functional strategy objectives.

  • Prepares and manages budgets: Establishes departmental; or project budgets; manages against approved budgets

  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of quality system processes that are directly or peripherally related to the Systems Engineering organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • 11+ years of experience with a minimum 10 years of experience in R&D engineering/related field.

  • Proven managerial experience with Cross Functional Technical teams with the ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy.

  • Demonstrated ability working in systems engineering and familiarity with systems engineering principles (i.e. Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), best practices (INCOSE) and deliverables.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience with Cross Functional Technical teams with the ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy.

  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate, troubleshoot, assess, remediate; and ability to make sound decisions and complex tradeoffs to successfully drive on-time product launches for complex products

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a Federal Regulated Environment

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills necessary to develop and maintain smooth, cooperative working relationships with all levels of Management and to drive change across business functions.

  • Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability required. Project leadership and management skills required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience within R&D for new product development within the medical device, defense or automotive industry.

  • Experience designing and testing medical devices required, preferably Class III active implantable devices such as interventional cardiology devices.

  • Experience and expertise with systems consisting of hardware, software, mobile app, and cloud components.

  • Experience and expertise with systems with RF, electromagnetics, ASICs, Bluetooth, and NFC technologies.

  • Functional management experience, including resource planning, career development, department oversight.

  • Thorough understanding of development; has successfully led significant development projects from beginning to end.

  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross division business unit model preferred. Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment. Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment. Multi-tasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner. Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold others accountable.

  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results.

The base pay for this position is $125,300.00 – $250,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
