Robert Half Senior Staff Accountant in Richmond, Virginia

Description We are on the hunt for a diligent Senior Accountant to join our team in the education industry, located in Richmond, Virginia. This role focuses on providing high-level accounting services, including overseeing subordinate accounting staff, preparing financial reports, and maintaining a comprehensive filing system. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to our team's efficiency and accuracy in financial management.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of subordinate accounting staff

• Provide constructive and timely feedback for performance evaluations

• Prepare and post monthly journal entries

• Analyze and reconcile balance sheet and profit & loss accounts

• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations of all bank accounts and report any disparities

• Maintain a comprehensive filing system of all accounting documents

• Assist in the preparation of financial reports

• Oversee reconciling of sub-ledgers to general ledger regularly

• Prepare monthly closing as well as annual closing

• Assist in the coordination and preparation for the annual audit

• Assign account numbers when required

• Audit athletic and special event ticket and ticket sales proceeds

• Prepare 1099 forms

• Assist with posting students' accounts receivable information to the general ledger

• Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements • Minimum of three years of experience in an accounting role, preferably within an education or university setting.

• Demonstrated proficiency in General Ledger and General Ledger Systems.

• Proven experience with Journal Entries, including Monthly Journal Entries, Ledger Journal Entries, and Month-end Journal Entries.

• Extensive knowledge and experience in Bank Reconciliations and Cash Reconciliations.

• Ability to prepare Financial Statements and Journal Entries.

• Experience in Insurance - Annual Statement Preparation is expected.

• Familiarity with Annual Financial Reporting and Financial Reporting procedures.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Proficiency in using financial software and Microsoft Office Suite.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• Professional certification such as CPA would be advantageous.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all work.

• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
