Actalent Physical Substation Engineer in Robbinsville, New Jersey

Position Overview: As a Physical Substation Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in designing, planning, and implementing electrical substations. Your work will directly impact the reliability and efficiency of power distribution systems. Responsibilities:

  • Substation General Arrangement:

  • Create layout designs for substations, considering space constraints, safety, and functionality.

  • Collaborate with civil and structural engineers to optimize substation layouts.

  • Substation Electrical Equipment Plans:

  • Develop detailed plans for electrical equipment placement within substations.

  • Specify equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, and control panels.

  • Substation Section Views (Elevations):

  • Generate elevation views to visualize the vertical arrangement of equipment.

  • Ensure compliance with safety clearances and accessibility requirements.

  • Substation Detailed Bill of Material (BOM):

  • Prepare comprehensive BOMs for all substation components.

  • Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure timely material acquisition.

  • Substation Lightning Stroke Shielding Plan:

  • Design lightning protection systems to safeguard substation equipment.

  • Evaluate grounding and shielding techniques to minimize lightning-related risks.

  • Substation Grounding Plan:

  • Develop grounding layouts to ensure proper electrical safety.

  • Analyze soil resistivity and design effective grounding grids.

  • Substation Conduit, Electrical Connection, and Grounding Details:

  • Specify conduit routes, cable trays, and grounding connections.

  • Collaborate with construction teams during installation.

  • Substation Below Grade Conduit/Raceway Plan:

  • Plan underground conduit paths for cable routing.

  • Address challenges related to soil conditions and accessibility.

  • Control Building Equipment, Cable Tray, Lighting, and Grounding Plans:

  • Design control buildings within substations.

  • Lay out cable trays, lighting fixtures, and grounding systems.

  • Interpreting Vendor Information:

  • Integrate vendor data into design deliverables.

  • Evaluate equipment specifications and incorporate them into substation designs.

  • Performing Walkdowns:

  • Conduct site visits (walkdowns) at client facilities.

  • Collaborate with field teams to verify design feasibility and address any issues.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

  • 6-10 years of physical substation design experience.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other relevant design software.

  • Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer

  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
