Basic Job Functions:

Duties of the successful candidate include but are not limited to the following:

  • Review contract documents (such as transmission line drawings and project specifications)

  • Design transmission, distribution, substation, and other utility structures, primarily tubular steel poles and arms

  • Typical responsibilities range from preliminary design concept pre-sale to checking final design post-sale

  • Common method is using PLS-Pole for global design and proprietary calculations for component design

  • If licensed, in responsible charge of projects once competent

  • Provide technical support to and collaborate with sales, detailing, project management, and production teammates

  • Communicate effectively and coordinate projects with internal and external customers, including other design professionals

  • Occasional travel is required to Nucor plants, utility offices, field locations, or to trade shows

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification

  • Organizing, Planning & Prioritizing Work Developing specific goals and plans for prioritizing, organizing, and accomplishing individual work and/or the work of the team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree specifically with Structural emphasis

  • Masters degree in engineering or business

  • Professional Engineer licensure in any state

  • Structural Engineer licensure in any state or Model Law Structural Engineer designation

  • At least three years transmission & distribution systems industry experience, utility structures design most preferred

  • At least one year steel products design experience, preferably within Nucor

  • PLS-Pole software knowledge

  • Experience in a customer-facing work environment
