Job Title: Team Leader - Machine Shop

* Location: * Shrewsbury, Shropshire

* Salary: * £14.50ph (£27,901.37pa)

Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday-Thursday, 9.25 hours per day, 0730-1715

Department and Job Overview

An opportunity has arisen for a CPS Team Leader to lead the New Component (ferrous and aluminium) Machining & Salvage Process Areas, coordinate projects and CPS initiatives. This role will report into report directly to the Section Manager. The successful candidate must be a self-starter with a range of experiences including a broad machining or operational background, and ability to lead teams and coach others. The purpose of this post is to develop the team, deliver the production plan, exceed cost targets and ensure that products are defect free. In addition, it is expected that the post holder will ensure and promote a safe, clean and organised environment for all staff.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • To understand the overall flow of the areas and the technical aspects of the component for features generated in area of responsibility.

  • To understand the technical aspects of the processes and flow for area assigned.

  • Team Leads must ensure safety standards and procedures are followed.

  • Adjust area staffing to meet schedule requirements and supporting the section’s production plan.

  • Translate the direction set by the Section Manager to task assignments for each Team Member in the given area to meet the section’s plan/requirements.

  • Communicate effectively with all those in need of information, including Team Members, management, maintenance, quality groups, etc. They are required to report out on the area’s status relative to plan.

  • To identify quality, personnel, safety and production issues and bring them to the immediate attention of the Section Manager to minimize the given problem’s impact on their area of responsibility and potentially the whole section.

  • Be responsible for owning the metrics for the given area and are accountable for each operation’s metric accuracy and timeliness of their reporting.

  • Be a practitioner and teacher of fundamental CPS principles and committed to their successful implementation. They are responsible for continually looking for and identifying WASTE.

  • Drive Root Cause identification via data driven part/process troubleshooting within the assigned area. They should be able to review, collect and analyse component, process and machine data to determine root cause.

  • Responsible for generating and working Continuous Improvement ideas for all ideas related to their assigned area.

  • Participate and/or lead Rapid Improvement Workshops for their assigned area of responsibility.

  • Continuously monitor and audit People, Quality, Velocity and Cost metrics for each operation (cell level metrics) in their area of responsibility. This is accomplished via audits of Team Member’s performance compared to: Standard Work, Significant Control Points and Area indicators.

  • Responsible for assisting in the creation, auditing, training and implementation of Standard Work processes and documentation.

  • Competent in QSI

  • Computer literacy.

  • Engineering or manufacturing systems experience.

  • Experience of salvage methods

  • Product Development, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Operations

  • Competent in MFGPRO
