We have an excellent opportunity for an Automation Lead, leading the Project Execution & Computerized Systems Validation team. This position leads a team of highly skilled automation professionals that implement projects with manufacturing automation scope and that ensure the validated state of these systems. Together with the team you will serve as a main point of contact for manufacturing automation strategy and standardization related subjects to the Leiden site. You are accountable for the automation project portfolio and resource management, to deliver within budget, EHS, quality, and efficiency requirements.

In this role you are a member of and strengthen the departments management team and report to the department Senior Manager. You will be based at the campus in Leiden, The Netherlands.

The candidate should be a good communicator with accompanied collaboration and influencing skills, a passionate change agent, who should constantly keep pace with industry trends and new technologies. Having a good understanding about the challenges and opportunities of automated manufacturing systems within pharmaceutical industry will work in your advantage.

Lead Automation Project Team (contract 2 years)

The Make Asset Management (MAM) organization operates as one integrated team in the delivery of Engineering, Maintenance and Execution Systems activities. The Execution Systems department is a dedicated team of hardworking and Automation professionals with various technical expertise. Responsibility lies in the (support of) implementation, validation, qualification and maintenance of the ISA-95 level 1 and 2 manufacturing automated systems and applicable interfaces and level 3 recipe content for the Leiden manufacturing facility. We ensure that automated systems are fit for intended use and follow applicable regulatory requirements (e.g. cG(a)MP) and company manufacturing standards throughout the entire system life cycle.

The responsibilities & the impact You will have:

  • Drive effective teamwork, communication, collaboration and build positive partnerships.

  • Act as a Coach and Mentor, Develop and Lead Execution Systems staff in a manner that will facilitate employee development, identifying training needs, stretch assignments and opportunities for development.

  • Build and lead the execution of the site manufacturing automation scope and strategy in close collaboration with Business & Technical Owners and provide standardization and architectural oversight for processes.

  • Help build the automation roadmaps with operational and IT partners which clearly communicates the digital journey for change across the sites.

  • Lead a portfolio of projects and work closely with business, Engineering and Maintenance, Digitalization & Technologies and IT functions to deliver data projects in timely and cost-effective manner.

Qualifications

You have an academic degree (Bachelor’s / Master’s) in a technology related subject area (e.g. Engineering, Industrial Automation, Information Technology, Computer Science etc.) or commensurate hands on experience. You are Intellectually curious about new technologies and are constantly learning. Preferably you have People Management experience.

  • Experience in a GxP regulated environment with a required minimum of 3-5 years and proven knowledge of current Good Automated Manufacturing Practices (GAMP).

  • Experience with validation steps, e.g. FAT/SAT/IOPQ and related GEP and documentation practices is preferred.

  • Has the ability to think strategically and lead change and to collaborate effectively with all levels of management and drive alignment in a global environment.

  • Knowledge of Process Excellence tools (Lean, Six Sigma) preferred. Green or Black Belt Certification in Lean or Six Sigma is preferred.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and automated controls is preferred.
