Job Description

Levi, Ray & Shoup, Inc. (LRS) is seeking a Payroll and Accounting Specialist to join our team. As a member of our accounting team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of multiple employee payrolls for employees throughout the United States, Australia and Singapore and for providing other general accounting duties as assigned.

This position is based at the LRS HQ headquarters location in Springfield, Illinois. Your compensation will consist of a base salary plus paid overtime, as needed.

As a Payroll and Accounting Specialist, you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing in-house which will include collecting, reviewing, and processing comprehensive payroll information for hourly and salaried employees.

  • Understanding and being able to calculate employee pay based on hours worked, salaries or any additional compensation, deducting applicable federal and state taxes, social security contributions, insurance premiums and other deductions.

  • Calculating, deducting and processing employee and employer 401k contributions.

  • Maintaining compliance with company policies and procedures as well as multiple federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour laws and best practices.

  • Creating and maintaining accurate records and reports, generating payroll reports for internal recordkeeping, management and internal and external auditing purposes.

  • Responding to and resolving payroll discrepancies and inquiries in a timely manner, addressing issues such as missing hours, incorrect calculations and tax-related concerns which may lead to reissuance of physical or replacement checks.

  • Efficiently distributing employee pay through direct deposit or physical checks.

  • Initiating payroll related payments and ensuring funds are transferred to the appropriate federal, state and local tax authorities on the appropriate schedule.

  • Identifying and recommending updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures to support efficiencies as needed.

  • Assisting with quarterly and year-end federal, state and local tax filings.

  • Assisting Accounting Manager with month-end close tasks and reconciliations as assigned.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years' experience in a payroll position with demonstrated responsibility over directly processing all aspects of employee payroll with in-depth knowledge of payroll regulations and best practices for payroll preparation, reconciliation, taxes and internal controls.

  • Strong foundational understanding of accounting principles, professional experience will make you a stronger candidate.

  • At least three years of experience using Microsoft Office tools – Outlook, Word, and Excel. Experience using payroll specific software and tools will make you a stronger candidate.

  • Permanent authorization to work in the USA for any employer. No visa sponsorships are available.

Close attention to detail, ability to work within deadlines and adherence to defined regulations and procedures, accuracy, and customer satisfaction are also important aspects of this role. You will have access to highly sensitive and confidential information, therefore, maintaining confidentiality will be vital to your success in this position.

Organization Structure and Interfaces:

You will be a member of the accounting team and you will report to the Accounting Manager who reports to the Director of Accounting and Corporate Taxation. You will interact with LRS Senior leadership, team members, sales managers, account executives, customers, and vendors in completing the tasks of your role.

Salary range: $50,000-80,000 annually plus paid overtime and full benefits. This range represents the low and high for this position. The salary will vary depending on factors including, but not limited to, experience and performance.
