Summary This position is located in Chickasaw National Recreation Area, in the Facilities Managment Division. Responsibilities Make regularly scheduled checks to water meters, gauges, motors, pumps, feeders, and other complicated recording and control devices. Ensure water quality is in compliance with all Federal, state, and/or local regulations, as well as Departmental and Bureau level policy. Complete water treatment processes where the quality of the water (typically pretreated or well water) is below acceptable and prescribed standards and requires nonfiltration processes such as carbonation, ammoniation, fluoridation, and chlorination to change the taste, odor, or chemical content of the water. Complete water treatment processes in accordance with Federal, state, and/or local regulations, as well as Departmental and Bureau level policy. Make scheduled equipment checks to gauges, meters, electrical motors, pumps, chemical feeders, auxiliary generators, and recording and controlling devices. Operate one or more types of heavy equipment (e.g., graders, tractors with bulldozer or angledozer blades, front-end loaders, backhoes, trench diggers, large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments) to push, pull, pile, or load materials such as sand, gravel, earth, coal, or refuse on flat or rolling terrain and utility construction sites with simple terrain problems. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You must possess and maintain a current Class A (or higher) Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsements within 18 months of your start date. You must possess and maintain an Oklahoma Water Operator Class D (or higher) Water Distribution License within 18 months of your start date. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 3 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Independently oversee the operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of water and/or wastewater treatment facilities, water distribution systems, and/or wastewater treatment collection systems. Oversee the operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of potable water pumping, storage, transmission, treatment and local distribution systems, wastewater collection and pumping systems; reclaim water pumping, storage, transmission systems, and chlorination systems. Oversee the operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of water treatment facilities. Additional Information Area Information: The recreation area is located adjacent to the town of Sulphur, Oklahoma (population 6,000), 82 miles south of Oklahoma City and 140 miles north of Dallas, Texas. The towns of Ardmore and Ada, each with a population of about 25,000, are about 30 miles away. Springs, streams, and lakes in wooded and grassy hills typify the area. Elevation is 1,011 feet and the average annual rainfall is 38 inches. Summer temperatures sometimes exceed 100 degrees and winter temperatures of 20 degrees or lower are not uncommon. Both Sulphur and nearby Davis (population 3,000) have school systems with Kindergarten through Grade 12. Fully accredited colleges are available as close as 30 miles. Physical Demands: Work assignments typically require moderately heavy physical effort to lift, carry, or otherwise handle items typically weighing up to 40 pounds. Duties require the incumbent to maneuver into and out of specific locations while dismantling and assembling utility related equipment. The incumbent makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms where the parts of systems worked on are in hard-to reach places. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping is typical. Occasionally, climbing and work in high places may be required, as well as the use of hoists, holders, and pulleys when handling large equipment. Working Conditions: Work is both indoors and outdoors where the incumbent may be subject to prevailing weather conditions. The incumbent may be exposed to biological hazards or diseases while cleaning equipment or shoveling sludge, and hazardous gases such as methane, chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, and carbon monoxide. The incumbent may also be subject to electrical shock, loud noises, acids, and hydraulic fluids while working around motors and pumps. There is exposure to shock, burns, and strains. The incumbent follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as face shields, gloves, hard-toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing that may be uncomfortable to wear. The incumbent is required to attend and participate in safety meetings and training and review and follow safety regulations and policies prior to using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as goggles, rubber mats, gloves, hard hats, and respirators as the jobs require. The incumbent may be required to operate motor vehicles and heavy engineering equipment. Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service.
