Supplier Collaboration Engineer
The position of Supplier Collaboration EngineerI will be the leader and key communicator for various Collaborative Product andProcess Development teams to interface with Suppliers and Purchasing to ensureearly supplier collaboration on design for manufacturability, assembly, andcosts as well as adherence to APQP guidelines. The Position leads Cost Modelingactivities that support the setting of Target Costs and managing product costto achieve target while optimizing value. Additional functionalresponsibilities include: supplier selection at a part- number level aligned tocategory strategies, supplier tooling validation & management, design for Xelements & provide PFEP requirements to deliver on engineered value chains.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but arenot limited to:
Provideleadership and is the key communicator for Collaborative Product andProcess Development.Responsible for leading teams to interfacewith Suppliers and Purchasing to ensure early collaboration on design forManufacturability, Assembly and Cost, as well as, adherence to APQP guidelines.
Leads across functional team to a solution that meets multiple objectives and balanceperformance, quality, velocity, and cost. Must have strong analyticalskills and the ability to influence others when there is conflict in processes,objectives, or solutions. This position needs to have the ability to see issuesand forecast future costs so that costs are stable and predictable. Accountable to identify and set current and future, target costs that arerealistic and valid.
This role is accountable to meet product cost,quality, and time targets in the product- life cycle including NPI throughsupplier collaboration at a part number level for their respective components,systems and/or categories (specify total cost management to include Ex- works,packaging & logistics). Development of detailed component cost models and high-levelcost estimates will be developed thru collaboration.
The goal for this position is to lead theteam through identifying cost opportunities, identifying requirements of apart(s) for each area and ultimately leading the team to meet their individualarea requirements within the cost target. Leading these discussions andprojects will be difficult in nature due to the multiple “tradeoffs”(negotiations / compromises) each area will need to make to achieve the qualityand cost goals. Completed cost models and expert guidance will be used toidentify cost reduction opportunities for subsequent delivery through theStrategic Cost Management, Purchase or NPI teams in the form of negotiation,resource or design change.
Position is to belocated in Tucson AZ long term, but will leverage local South Milwaukee supportin the short term if possible.
- 4-year degree in an accredited curriculum OR 3 years experience inEngineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or Purchasing/Logistics roles.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, engineering discipline, and quality processes
- Technical background, with ability to read/interpret engineering drawings and 3D CAD Models.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are required to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific actions.
- Good level of understanding of company policies and procedures related to manufacturing, engineering and/or maintenance.
Top candidates will also have:
* Prior Supplier Development experience
- Prior Team Leadership experience
- Understanding or MRP and SAP systems
- Knowledge and application of APQP
- 6-Sigma Black Belt experience
- Travel Required (10% - 25% working time)
