The Doe Run Company is seeking a Sr. Metallurgist to provide expertise and extensive experience in mineral processing, pyro-metallurgical, or hydrometallurgical plant operations. This position will be located in Viburnum, MO.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and direct others in the execution of metallurgical research programs to improve current and create new processing techniques to be employed in Doe Run operations. Conduct sampling programs, analyze data and examine for opportunities to improve current Doe Run plant operations, use experience to solve plant operation issues.
  • Oversee sampling programs, analyze data and examine for opportunities to improve current Doe Run plant operations, use experience to solve plant operation issues.
  • Communicate processes, procedures, conditions, and status to departmental employees and other stakeholders.
  • Coach, provide guidance and develop knowledge and skill base of entry-level engineers and technical staff in the conduct of metallurgical research and principals.
  • Evaluate projects by working with vendors, consultants, and educators to test and evaluate new and upgraded equipment, reagents, and flow sheets or processes on a large plant scale.
  • Provide technical expertise to other departmental and divisionaloperations.
  • Complete tasks in a safe and environmentally compliant manner by following EHS (environmental, health, and safety) policies, procedures, and best practices; support and assist peers in working in a safe, compliant manner; report unsafe acts or conditions, incidents, and deviations; and provide feedback to support continuous improvement in EHS performance Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in metallurgy, preferably in metal/non-metal hydro or pyro metallurgy or minerals processing
  • Experience training and developing technical staff.
  • Bachelors Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient computer skills, including ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.), I-Series (LIMS ETMS), and Purchasing (PeopleSoft) systems.

  • Advanced knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures and quality control procedures.

  • Advanced ability to conduct plant auditingprograms.

  • Advanced ability to lead and direct minerals processing or extractive pilot plants and operations.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly uses a computer and phone. Frequently uses hand tools (powered and non-powered). Occasionally uses personnel carriers and loading/hauling equipment. Rarely uses cutting/welding equipment. Frequently required to work in outdoor weather conditions, wear PPE including but not limited to eye protection, hearing protection, and foot protection.
  • Regularly required to work in outdoor weather conditions, wear PPE including but not limited to respirator, eye protection, hearing protection, and foot protection. Occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. Occasionally required to work in confined spaces, wet, humid conditions (non-weather), vibration, work at heights of 4 or more with fall protection, and work with fall protection. Exposed to loud noise.
  • Occasionally required to wear a respirator.
  • Regularly requires walking, standing, driving and reaching with hands/arms; occasionally requires sitting, talking, hearing, Requirements stooping, crouching, kneeling and crawling, and the use of repetitive motion. Requires clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision and precise hand-eye coordination.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 15 pounds.
