Your Opportunity:

In this position as a Structural Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work as part of the Ports and Marine Terminals team of planners, engineers and technologists on multiple projects for a range of public and private sector clients. Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs structural engineering design tasks on assigned port and marine structures related projects.

  • Performs calculations along with structural analysis and modeling.

  • Assists in the preparation of engineering project documents including drawings, reports, specifications and costs estimates, client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.

  • Attends and assists in client/contractor/stakeholder meetings to gain a better understanding of client’s goals.

  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.

  • Utilizes relevant software programs including SAP2000 to prepare analysis, design, and complex working drawings.

  • Supports the growth of our business with a focus on the ports and marine terminals discipline in British Columbia, including proposal writing, team coordination, and assisting project managers / project engineers.

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of structural design codes, standards, and applicable port design standards and guidelines

  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.

  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.

  • Working knowledge of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions and developing jurisdictional experience and contacts.

  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite and structural analysis software such as SAP2000

  • Developing ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Cooperative skills in working efficiently with a team.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil/Structural Engineering or related field.

  • EIT or Licensed Professional Engineer.

  • Minimum of 3-7 years of experience.

  • Previous experience in port and marine terminals design working with multidiscipline teams on a wide variety of Ports & Marine Terminals projects including a variety of marine structures.

  • Demonstrated technical skills on projects and in particular marine structures including wharves, piers and jetties.

Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • Lower Mainland $73,600/BC Other Areas $69,400 - Lower Mainland $106,600/BC Other Areas $100,600 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
