As a part of the Offline Marketing and Sales team, you will support a variety of products and services, including Echo, Ring, Amazon Smart Fire TV & Streaming Media Players, Fire Tablets, Kindle eReaders, Blink, eero, and more. Our customers inspire us, and they’ve been at the heart of how we invent and evolve our products, services, displays, customer experiences and more. You will be the face of Amazon in offline retail accounts for both staff and customers. As a team we strive to provide the best customer experience possible.

As an Area Manager, you will lead a team of Market Trainers, and report to a Regional Manager. You will be responsible for hiring, coaching & development, and performance management of your team. You will own your area, ensuring that your team is executing the Amazon in-store experience correctly - owning resets, training, and other in-store deliverables. You will consolidate market insights and retail trends, impacting the direction of Amazon Devices and Services. Area Managers are expected to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends. The role requires 50% travel, or as required.

Your team of Market Trainers will own a territory of offline retail stores, managing the Amazon in-store experience and merchandising. They serve as the Amazon expert, relying heavily on their ability to influence without authority to drive project deliverables. They will execute and manage in-store product transitions and retailer communications, while collecting market insights. They will train sales associates and support staff on Amazon Devices & Services, positively impacting the customer experience and indirectly impacting sales and advocacy metrics for your territory.

Key job responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Drive KPIs to increase sales through the offline retail channel

  • Create programs and mechanisms that will enable Market Managers to target highest value regions, accounts and stores

  • Directly oversee 6 to 10 Market Managers within a given area where you will coach, develop, and performance manage the team across multiple states

  • Interview, hire, build a talent bench and manage a team with accompanying responsibilities of allocating and directing work

  • Perform store walks and other audits, conduct one-on-ones with employees, engage with associates and retail managers, and provide feedback on the health of the market

  • Ensure the Amazon in-store experience and merchandising is properly implemented across retailers within your direct team

  • Travel regularly to visit Market Managers to audit and observe Market Manager performance

  • Analyze data and guide the team to adjust as needed, use business metrics to measure and drive performance, and convey results in regular business reviews.

  • Use business acumen and critical thinking skills to identify trends, drive root cause analyses, and resolve issues in store operations across your area.

  • Serve as the Amazon expert for your region. Train Market Managers on how to sell our devices, accessories, content, and experience

  • Serve as subject matter expert on a wide array of topics with internal stakeholders

  • Monitor and respond to success metrics in your market

  • Represent your area in regional and national meetings

  • Plan, lead and facilitate events and meetings regionally and nationally with internal and external partners

  • Sponsor internal and external business reviews covering operational performance and strategic initiatives

  • Work with Amazon Marketing and Product Management to incorporate findings into marketing plan and product roadmap

  • Analyze, compile and present business trends to develop overall strategy

  • Respond to escalations from business leaders and other stakeholders i.e. channel marketing, product leaders, program management, etc.

  • Collect business and market insights from customers, store associates, and Market Managers

  • Identify expansion opportunities among regional retailers

  • Travel to conduct store visits to merchandise, build relationships, and install displays per team needs

A day in the life

Area Managers rely heavily on reporting and metric tools to manage their team remotely. Area Managers coach and develop their team to improve brand advocacy the customer experience at retail. They guide their team to achieve KPIs such as store visits, training, in-store time, reporting, training, advocacy, and more. They foster relationships with key decisions makers in retailer accounts at the market and district level. Area Managers work closely with retail partners and customers to gather insights to improve products and services and drive decisions at the corporate level. They ensure the Amazon in-store experience and merchandising is properly implemented across retailers for all Amazon, Ring, eero, and Blink devices and services

About the team

The Amazon Offline Sales & Marketing team is responsible for selling Amazon devices into physical retailers across the United States. Market Managers lead sales and marketing initiatives for Amazon and its branded products in retail locations. They are responsible for the in-store experience, fostering relationships, training at the store/district level, running assisted selling events, and promoting Amazon and its brands through customer interactions. Market Managers are focused on increasing sales of Amazon and its branded products in retail stores and educating store associates and consumers on the value of Amazon devices, accessories and Amazon in general.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of retail experience

  • 3+ years of people management experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Demonstrated ability to attract, hire, and develop high-performing teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions and implement effective solutions.

  • Experience facilitating individual and group product trainings

  • Ability to be on your feet for up to 8 hours at a time (with or without reasonable accommodation)

  • Ability to push, pull, lift, squat, bend, reach and carry items up to 50 pounds (with or without reasonable accommodation)

  • Possess a mobile phone compatible with iOS or Android operating systems

  • Access to reliable transportation to travel between worksites during the work day

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Multi-unit leadership experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or related area.

  • Demonstrated success in problem solving and delivering results.

  • Deep understanding of Amazon, Ring, eero and Blink devices and services

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $53,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $129,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
