The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for a Part-Time Communications Specialist to support our government customer located in Atlanta, Georgia. This is a remote position.

This highly skilled and experienced Part-Time Scientific Communications Specialist will join our team on a contract basis for the CDC's Emerging Infectious Disease Journal. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in scientific communications and a passion for conveying complex scientific information to a broad audience. This role will involve creating engaging and accurate scripts for podcasts, scientific content for social media, emails for various scientific campaigns, and performing general communication specialist tasks.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write and develop scripts for podcasts that translate scientific research and findings into engaging, accessible content.

  • Create scientific content for social media posts that effectively communicate key messages and findings to a diverse audience.

  • Draft and edit emails for various scientific campaigns, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and adherence to CDC guidelines.

  • Perform general communications specialist tasks as needed, including drafting reports, press releases, and other content.

  • Collaborate with CDC researchers, editors, and other stakeholders to ensure all content is accurate and aligned with organizational goals.

  • Stay current with emerging infectious diseases research and public health communications trends.

    REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

    Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Health, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in scientific communications or a related field.

  • Proven ability to translate complex scientific information into clear, engaging, and accurate content.

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.

  • Experience with content creation for various platforms, including podcasts, social media, and email campaigns.

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

    DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working with government agencies or public health organizations.

  • Knowledge of digital communication tools and social media platforms.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote work environment.

    REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be able to pass a Tier 1/ NACI background investigation.
